Broken inner fiber

Found a broken inner fiber plate tonight during routine inspection of my clutch while preparing for Maxton this weekend. Now I'm really glad I opened it up last minute! All the fibers were completely dry, even the steels. The little bit of oil in the photo is from where I touched it when pulled it out (changed the oil at the same time).
I don't understand why everything was so dry considering I've done all the clutch mods (Muzzys kit) and billet basket too. Anyone else ever had a fiber break like this?
This time I soaked the fibers in Mobil1 75W synthetic gear oil.

everytime i pull my clutch to inspect and soak in oil it is totally dry just like you say.(muzzy kit)But no broken ones yet. Also my muzzy shifter still isn't reliably shifting. Now i'm told to try just co2 instead of nos.but i bought it to tee off my nos and it supposed to work with nos.Any ideas what the problem could be?

My airshifter isn't terribly reliable either like you say. I can trust it for the 1-2 shift MOST of the time but not ALL of the time which you would think is possible for $600, but it more often misses the 2~3 than anything other gear. It's not consistant and I can't trust it for bracket racing. So during competition I try footshift in conjunction with the kill provided by the airshifter to "help" it into gear. I put the updated shim in the regulator which helped alot but not enough. Also increased the kill time which helped but I think it needs more, which I will try this weekend. I've only gone through two bottles so I am going to give it another two bottles to see if I can iron out the bugs more. I'm afraid if I turn the kill time out any more I may as well be foot shifting anyway.

Bergie,
I have NOT had any inners break. Is that a skinny fiber or a regular one?
I pull the clutch after evry day at the track and it always has oil on it. Not a lot, but it hasn't yet been dry.
How high do you run yr oil level (as seen in the inspection window)????

Thats exactly the case with my fibres and steels DRY!!!. I have the Muzzy clutch too and at the weekend I will be enlarging the holes in the hub. I will let you know if it makes a difference. To be honest though I think the clutch on the 12 is a pile of shit.

I have had my inner fiber shatter like that, but it was the skinny fiber, and that one looks full size??? hey at least it is not burnt... LOL.. my clutch has oil on it but I try and lean my bike over before each run.

My sentiments also, NM. I've got two flatspots ground on the pressure plate puller shaft to increase the amount of oil to the clutch. I don't have a Muzzy hub. Haven't pulled mine apart since my big motor install 2k and roughly 70 passes ago. Still working.

I was thinking getting rid of the skinny plate would help the problem, but who knows. I know one thing, the more cool down time between runs, the better. My 2002 shifts better than the 2000 by far. I have my Dale Walker electric powershifter working perfectly, and I can still say I've never lost a race because of a shifter failure. (knock on wood)

Has anyone run into the problem of getting too much oil on the plates? A friend of mine with the Muzzy kit also flattened the push rod a little for more oil flow, well that got a lot more oil to the clutch, BUT it begin to slip just a little bit on dyno pulls. You could hear the engine rev & then the clutch/wheel would catch up, put in a brand new push rod & the slip went away. You don't want any oil on the plates when you want the clutch to fully engage, only when slipping, right? Just a light film to keep the Clutch from grabbing & crumbling away the fibres.

I run the oil 1/2 to 3/4 in the sight glass (spec). That broken fiber is the skinny 1032 fiber (the first in the stack). I stumbled upon this by accident there were no symptoms of the breakage while racing/riding.

Make sure you don't have grooves worn in the basket or inner-hub...that can cause plates to fracture...
The shifter/tranny not working right can add to the problem also...
We have been running a wide plate in place of the narrow one for a long time...NO problems...
