Buddy: mph vs gearing
Buddy,
You said email the info to you, but others may be interested???
77" measured tire circumference
10.900rpm
19-45 = 203mph
19-46 = 198mph
11,600rpm (limiter)
19-45 = 217mph
19-46 = 212mph
78" tire circumference = est incr for centrifugal "growth"
10.900rpm
19-45 = 205mph
19-46 = 201mph
11,600rpm (limiter)
19-45 = 220mph
19-46 = 215mph
Where it gets interesting is tire growth vs tire slippage at max speed.
When I did a bunch of top speed test several years ago (on the street but with GPS), I saw about 5%?? tire slippage at 201mph; i.e. rpm didn't equal speed according to calculations. My clutch was locked, and had 6" arm.
In any event, i would definitely send yr ECU to Dave Owen for extending the limiter to 12,200.
Dave's shop tel # = 508 620 9876 (XTREME PERFORMANCE, Framingham Mass)
If you have trouble getting in touch with him, i'll pm his cell to you.
hey, tell Dave that "Texas Karl" sent you and maybe i'll get a discount at Xtreme Performance next time

Thanks for the info. That 6" in arm is about where I will be so we will see if the same discrepency of calculation vs. actual occurs.
Dave will be out of his shop till the 9th due to attending a show. I've found my spare ecu and will get it to him when he returns.

Yep, that extra RPM will give you a little cushion zone for your nos.
I thought Dave O was in the snow plow bussiness and just did this for fun, but I dream crazy stuff up all the time.

snow plow biz???
I think Dave is a full time motor building/dyno tuning motor head.

I remember a thread I started (one of my first) on labusas in 2000, about Doug doing 199 mph and how this could be possable because my bike hit the rev limiter (on the dyno) before it could ever do 199.
I think it was like 194 or somthing at the rev limiter.
If i remember right Doug took offense to the thread. But i was actually questioning just what you speak of. Wondering what the deal was with my bike. And if it was a CA model or somthing with a neutered ECU.

What bike are we talking about?
BTW, my stock A1 12 topped out @ 194 mph on the dyno. Speedo said 210.

Did Doug ever say what gearing he had on his 199mph run??
I think i had 18/44 on my top end tests way back then.

They claimed it was stock gearing for those maxton runs.

If you now look on the 12 side it may have been a different sized tire. Also the "EXACT" rpm on the limiter is never the same.

Mine is exactly 11,625 so if they varry by bike OR ECU then that may explain the different limiter cut in rpms.
