Question for Drag Racers about race fuel

I picked up 5 Gallons of U4 fuel for next weeks drag racing ...I don't want to put anymore fuel than is needed ...Question is will the zx14 run with only one gallon of fuel in the tank with no problems . Will one gallon cause a problem uncovering the pump or pick up causing starvation?

Lee, guys with Busa's and 12s have been using mr9 including myself with no lack of octane problems!!!

I have been using mr9 since 2003 leaving the gas in the tank all season between races1-3 weeks without removing it from the tank, putting pump gas in for winter storage...No problems!!!...Except in November of 2005 when the 12 didn't start when unloaded at the track, Yep it was the fuel pump, Put the new one in and good as new!!!

What I have found is that when you empty the tank dry on the 12, when adding gas 1 gallon will only give you enough fuel to have the fist bar blinking...Add another gallon and you get 2 additional bars, so the 12 needs 2 gallons when tank is dry!!!...Also when using mr9 the 12 starves for gas and bogs if you try to make a pass with the 1st. bar blinking!!!...I get 8 passes to a gallon of mr9...

I have also realized that it's best to have 3 bars = 2 gallons (1st. large bar and 2 small bars after) lit on the gas guage when leaving the mr9 in your 12 to the next race or test / tune!!!...What that does is keep the plastic parts of the fuel pump submerged in mr9 which prevents the slimmy film that is left on plastic when the oxygenated fuel dries!!!

Since the gas tank on the 14 is very similar as is the fuel pump location then I would add 2 gallons of mr9 to an empty tank...You'll have to make passes to see how low you can go in fuel before the 14 bogs / starves for gas...Just make a note as to the fuel guage when you add the 2 gallons, then how many passes you made and where the guage is at when the bog happens......You will know the bog I am talking about when you launch the 14 doing the Snap 'n Slide, then all of a sudden at just around the 60ft. the bike bogs then wakes up and puts you into a 2ft. wheelie...

Lee, I really believe that mr9 is worth the extra $10 a gallon, it burns faster...Besides if u4 was better, than RG, Brock and all the other Pros would use that instead!!!

Hope that helps???

I agree with you MR9 would be better but all they sell around here is U4......I'll try 2 gallons and see what happens wed night .....We have an all bike test and tune at BMP Friday night the 19th !!! 6:00 to 11:00 for 40 bucks ....Looks like the air will be around 70 deg and with the u4 fuel i'm looking for some 8.80s ....I hope ...lol...

I think that mR9 is an oxy fuel akin to the 91?octane SP5 which Nutec used to sell.

I had no problems running Nutec SP5 at the 1/4 mile (14.5:1 CR).

BUT...

In 2004, on my 1st pass at the Texas Mile it toasted the headgasket.

just a thought (and a caution).

Since we are talking about fuel options. What kind of fuel would the pros out htere recommend for LSR, 1 mile races like texas or maxton. I run Nos too, so something that is good for nitrous engines is what I am in need of. Thanks in advance for the input.

Dean it's open to all .... You just need 40.00 bucks ....Teddy and I will both be there so come on down ..I'm hearing that there will be a 100 or so bikes show up.. Dean there is no test and tune sat , it's some kind of big bracket race sat .....Lee.. Oh dean this may be something you want to do >> Sunshine speedway once a month will have a street shoot out for bikes and it's held on Sat .... 70 inch limit , street tire and no wheelie bars , turbos and N20 ok, Heads Up !!!! .....They are testing this and will adding more classes if more bikes show up...I would like to see two classes one for turbos and N20 and one for all motor ....Lee...

NO NO NO Bracket racing sucks .......Hell you can do that on friday nights ....Needs to be heads up ...Teddy think about the turbo or N20 bikes that run sunshine , half the time they spin or wheelie and run no faster than we do ....For them to win they have to make a good pass every time ...Not that easy to do ...If it were a 1/4 mile they could run us down even if they had a problem in the 1/8 but in the 1/8 there is no room for a screw up....Fastest bike that we see are 5.50s to 5.70s and can't do it every pass ...A 5.90 bike that can do it round after round can win..
