Nox.... Good choice to go with R+D. Since I had mine done It hasn't thought of missing a shift Spinning, sliding around, auto shifting etc..... But it's gonna cost you. I had the low first gear put in, circlip mod (must do on the 12) drum cut and the gears inspected, under cut and heat treated.. It's bomb proof now and while your in there pull the counter balancer and put in the Brock fork rods...... You'll be happy after you get over the sticker shock.

I think I am going to run the NHRA div 4 series next year, and I want this thing right.........

Mike, what do you want for the tranny, just curious............

I am scared to pull the balancer........., it has not messed up yet, did you gain any by removing it? Any dyno results on this?

Buddy, the circlip in question is for fourth or fifth gear, I think ?? anyhoo.. it wears out and allows third gear to push further over than it should and jump out of third (it was happening to me alot...)
Nox, no dyno info on the balancer removal (didn't dyno my bike till after the mod) the motor might spin up a little quicker now... I'll shoot you a e-mail when I get home from work.

This is real frustrating........, cant see a thing wrong with the pan off, with the drum, shifts fine by hand, but using the lever, will not go into first without help, unless it is already in second.........

You would think something would be really wrong.........

talked to Mark at R&D today, as soon as I can get the K&L engine stand I ordered in, I will pull it out and see whats up. I would rather have seen broken teeth or something, just so I know whats up........

Gonna send it to R&D and have a full job done on it...... billet gears, lower first, and the works done to it.........

Zxboy, is that what you had done? I never got an email........., Price was like 1700 over the phone.............

Nox....sent you a e-mail. I did just the low first gear and the works...but no billet gears. I paid around $1200 so the $1700 sounds about right with the billet gears. It's probably the best money I spent on the bike. Before doing the tranny It would miss an occasional shift but always at the worst time... like when I would tree the shit out of somebody and had them covered and it would get fowled up in third gear..... there goes the race and the money. since doing the work It hasn't missed a shift.
Sounds like you need to check the external shift mechanism. The shift arm that goes through the case, the spring and pawl (spelling?) thingy the spins the shift drum star, and the roller arm and spring that indexes the shift star. Word of caution !!!!! when I did my tranny I stripped the bolt hole that holds the the roller arm..... It was one of the last things I assembled after putting it all back together. I kind of freaked out but was able to mask off the whole bottom of the engine and drill and heli-coil the stripped hole, It was like surgery. There's not a lot of threads there to begin with you might want to think about a heli-coil while you have the bottom case loose. Roy

I did that last time, it already has a heli coil!!!!!!!!!!!!

I checked the star and all, I have the heavy spring and Factory Pro star...........

I think it is in the forks........., but I cant see up there to first and second real good........

Thanks Roy..........

How did that first gear help your short times.........and 60 to 330 incrementals?

Well, I am no freakin expert on Tranny's, but even shifting it with the drum while rotating the sprocket on the stand, dang thing hangs in a false neutral in between 2 and 3...., and has a hella time going into first......, and 6th.........

Me thinks could be a combo of things, but I guess I wont be able to tell jack until I split the cases tomorrow........, I forgot how freakin heavy these motors are...........

I had the Billet gears installed by Robinson Industries. However, I did not go with the lower fisrt gear.

I would take a close look at the shift forks. If they have a scuff or shine to them they could be bent. It's hard to determine by eyeballing at times.

Also check the shift drum Tracks / Guides. The edges should be smooth with no nicks. Check very close just before and after the detent points.

Only problem i've had with the zx12 trans.
You can replace the forks without dropping the engine.

yeah, but, when you run on less than stellar tracks, you bend em a lot., this is the second time........., and I am having it done bombproof this time, I have lost more money in rounds than it would have taken to do it right the first time.........

I race with several guys who have full job RnD trannys, and they never miss a shift.........., and are usually the ones that beat me when mines decides to be stupid..............

No more..........
