Stock 12

What is the fastest anyone has rode the 12 down the 1/4 totally stock?

I mean not lowered, the OEM exhaust, no PCR3, no slicks, no big-bore...just the way it comes from big K.

I'm interested to know what to expect at the strip.

Thanks.

A fiend of mine here in the UK has a best time of 9.98. He always runs 10 teens. He is a good rider and the bike is bone stock. He is also a lightweight (150lbs) so thats gotta help. I would say Mr Average on a bone stock 12 can expect to run anywhere from high tens to middle tens but its all down to experiance I think.

I managed a 9.89 @ 143 once and a handful of 9.90s before I put the pipe on two years ago.

150 ET

So RAC4IT/other gurus...

For the 150ET, what mods are the best way to get there off the stock setup?

The first and most important mod is the clutch. Putting a flat spot on the puller rod, install some heavier clutch springs, drilled out clutch hub and collar, and maybe a billet basket to be on the safe side.
Let the bike cool 30mins or so between runs otherwise you'll probably get "baked clutch" syndrome...lol.
A lowering strap is a good investment too.
A 17 tooth countershaft sprocket is also a cheap mod. You can do all the mods above except for the hub and basket for well under $100. The hub & basket combo will set ya back $650, but its money well spent if you race the bike continuously.

Why would you want to run down the strip stock, when for $25 you could throw a lowering strap on the bike and improve your time by at least .30. If you get into the 9's without lowering it at all, you would have to be a featherweight.

My first pass on my BONE-STOCK 12 was 10:18. Best that night was a 10:04, but by the next weekend I had already put the strap on and started the Y2K mods. Got down to 9:90 with only the Y2K mods and a strap. All stock gearing, etc...

RAC, My picts went down with photopoint. Basically you take the clutch puller rod and put a flat spot on it near the boss so it can get alittle extra oil flow. Some guys have EDM'd the rod slightly deeper on the hollow end to keep the temp cooler on it so the end wont shear off from the extreme heat of drag race launches. Simple to do once the clutch cover is off. Made a big difference in clutch life for me (over 10k miles on my 2nd set of steels and fibers)
