cam cap bolts: weak lil bastids
I have had 3 cam cap bolts fail while working on my #2 motor (senior science fair project).
while torquing them they wouldn't take 106 in-# and started "necking".
(yes, i have a hi quality torque wrench.)
Go figure. Anyone else have this happen??
lil bastids!

I thought it was just me!
Cheap torque wrench here.at least they're fairly easy to remove.

I wondered why the baseball kept getting bigger. Then it hit me.

Is it possable they were over tightened at one time? 106in. lbs. isnt much.
Mine have been off several times and have always pulled torque so far.
Same with the cam gear bolts. They dont need much torque to get the proper stretch from them.

the fact that the "bolts were necking" sounds bad, but at least they weren't playing with each other's nuts!

Just kindding ya entropy.
It sounds like something I would do though. I have a headless one I need to get out of my
old clutch hub. Any tips cause it's in further than I'd like.

my brother told me if you take an engraver and just hold in on the end of the broken bolt it will work it's way out.... something about the vibration... he says he does it like that when he is working on fork lifts...

Thank ya much Buddy, but I have two. luckily the bike came with a few extra parts when I bought it. This happened last year and I just have not gotten around to getting the bolt out. I will probably pick up a drill press to make sure I get a nice straight hole in the bolt then just use my old bolt extractor kit. .........But I did not know if there was an easier way.
Wish me luck, I'll be headed to JC's on Sunday, plastiguage in hand and a couple choice wrenches. Might even get the head on if I don't strip stuff out or snap bolt heads.
