Suspension Setup (General ?s)

Guys,

Got some general questions about suspension setup. First off, I'm a light rider (145lbs in street clothes). I have a 2000 zx12 with small piston kit, two intake cams, and a lot of nitrous. The bike is around 65.5 - 66 inches long. The front end is lowered thru the clamps and strapped slightly. On on the shock, the lowering links are in the middle position. I'm running 17-48 gearing and a MT shootout tire. II'm also running a low profile tire in the front (120/60). f I lower the linksin the back to the lowest point, it puts the bike too low.

So my question is how much sag am I supposed to have when I sit on the bike. Also, what about the compression and rebound? All in the way in or all the way out?

I'm just looking for baseline settings to work from. Any help is appreciated.

Thanks

Buy a link pro, and some adjustable links from spencer cycle, I would say about 20 mm of sag, or maybe a ;hair more, some of that is personal preference........

FYI, you opened a big can of worms................,

I've just got the bike put back together after sitting for about a year from dropping a valve. Whole new motor. Getting it tuned on the dyno in the next couple of weeks. Find out then about the intake cams. The bike before dropping a valve with me riding it (1st time ever down the 1/4 track - first time at strip period) the bike went 10.00 @ 145 on motor with a terrible 60 foot.

The link pro is a good idea and it's probably in the future. The bike is mainly a street bike that I like to ride (no sidewinder or cut pan).

What about compression & rebound? How many clicks?

Not sure, with your weight, stock shock, rebound as slow as you can get it..............

It depends on how much you want spend!!!
Do you have a TigerTail on it???...If not does your tire rub the fender???
Are you wheelieing alot???
What are your 60's...
What arm do you have on it???
Stock Shock??? and what did you do to it, adjustments???

No tiger tail. It DOES NOT rub the fender at the moment.
Dont know about the wheelieing, havent ran it this year yet.

It's a stock shock - the person who had the bike before me tightened the shock down real tight (twisted the spring down). That's why I'm wanting to know about the amount of sag you guys are running.

I only made 3 passes on the bike before it dropped a valve. 60s were in the range of 1.60s. I rode a stock wheelbase 12 recently and did a high 1.60 sixty foot. My dad (20 years of drag experience) rode my bike also before dropping a valve and did some high 1.40s sixty foots.

I grew up riding dirt bikes and this is my first street bike. The bike should do mid to low 1.40s with some good riding, I assume.

Dont worry about it then, get used to the bike and keep checking the fender above the tire...When it hits the it;s time to buy a new shock, or have yours revalved or get the link pro as NOX said!!!
