Busa rear wheel cracking

From Labusas...

http://www.labusas.org/phpBB2/viewtopic.php?t=79739&sid=e32498f358e125fe42b49a0763c900db

I noticed that my rear tire pressure would drop slightly, so I figured I had a nail or something causing the slow leak, so I air it up to 29 psi, then I go for a short ride yesterday morning. About an hour ago, I check the rear tire and I notice the pressure had dropped considerably...down to prob around 10 pounds...so I'm spinning the wheel on the stand looking for foreign objects which I found none. I just happen to look at the wheel and I fuckin' lost it. Here is the best pic I could get:

The pressure dropped more because the short ride I took yesterday morning caused the wheel to crack more. I swear this wheel is close to breaking. 2 of the 3 spokes are cracked, and the one in the photo is actually broken open. So I'm talking to Bill, one of the owners of Flatout Racing where I bought the bike in 2002 and he's explaining that he's seen a lot of cracked Busa wheels...from folks 'stuntin' and such. I do the occasional wheelie and rolling burnout...that's it. Fucker quoted me a price for a new chrome wheel at $900+...FOR ONE FUCKIN' PRONE TO CRACKING SUZUKI WHEEL!!

ALL BUSA OWNERS...check your wheels. A few more rides and it could have spelled disaster for me.

Anyone got a chrome rear wheel for sale? Who has the best prices for Busa wheels? Suggestions? I need to get my bike running.

Oh yeah, that chain isn't rusted...it's gold and has muck stuck to the lube.

I'll check this post throughout the day since I'm still home on vacation. I need to make a decision on a wheel (or wheels) today.

1 wheel doesn't exactly make it an epidemic.

Especially considering the same wheel fits Busas from 99-06(?) and 2-3 years of TLR's as well.

Question is whether or not chroming had any effect on the wheel as well.

Lotsa variables...

Is that *rust* on the chain, or is it just gold-colored?

The key word here is CHROME wheel. Chrome plating is well known to cause embrittlement. That is why chrome frames and suspension parts are not allowed at most race events.
If this were in fact a stock wheel he would have a valid point.

I know that bike isn't under warranty...but if it was, chroming would completely void the warranty on the wheels. Basically, this guy doesn't have a leg to stand on. Who knows, maybe it was polished originally and the person doing it ground the shit out it.

This is a lesson if you are actually using your bike to go fast. Leave the chrome at home!

Chrome might have been performed after the wheel was repaired - who knows???

Still just aren't that many wheel crackin problems to worry about.
