You shift as close to the rev limiter as possible without tripping it.

Assuming the motor drops about 1000rpm on an upchange, wouldn't it be better to shift 500 rpm past peak power? That would mean the engine is making most power most of the time.

What RAC4IT said, if you change gears before redline, watch how your MPH falls off !!!

I would look at your dyno sheet and shift 500 rpm past peak ,

Don't assume shifting close to rev limiter gives you best results; going far past peak power is counter productive.
Experiment a little so you can see for yourself what top speed and elapse time you get.

If your engine power band keeps making progressive power up to the rev limiter then yes; shift near that then. if not no.

I think that Bergie was assuming that the guy was running a stock ZX-12. If this is the case, the shift point is as close to the rev limiter as possible without hitting it. A lot of us have drag raced the 12, and from experience, the best place to shift is right where we said.

12s like/NEED to be rev-ed...
Do as stated above (by experienced 12 riders/RACERS)...
Shift as close to the limiter as possible...
12s go quicker/FASTER when the limiter is raised...

"assuming" 1,000rpm drop is WAY off...specially in the lower gears...
1st - 2nd = 25% less rpm!!!
2nd - 3rd = 21%
4th = 13%
5th = 10%
6th = 9%
11,600rpm in 1st = 8,718rpm in 2nd...
11,600 in 5th...shift to 6th does = 1,007 drop though

Has anyone used the extended rev limiter from muzzy with a stock motor with any gain? Or, would this hurt the motor.......???
