Where do you get your Manual Cam chain Adjustor?

I just got some and was looking to see what the prices were and every where I looked, None were available! Did not see them at Muzzys, Schnitz, APE, Brock, MRE or anywhere.

IMO, I think no ones got them, because you don't need them.

After working the "how do I adjust the manual cam tensioner" issue to death, i took the advice of Osti & others and went back to the OEM. Over tightening the manual tensioner will destroy the cam chain and slipper guides. OEM works perfectly on 4.6mm stroker.

At Gainesville 2003, I saw "1" Stock Tensioner that went bad. Thats all, just one! the problem is, it cost the engine.

On the Street I would use nothing less than the Stock set up, but for 300 HP and the fact that the adjustor can be in between notches and be too lose I will take the time to adjust the manual tensioner. The 10 minutes and $50 are worth while insurance

You know what the more that I have thought about it... HarryZX12R did have one fail... I think his center pin broke or came out? and he did not do any damage, BUT he had to pull it and "VW RIG" it and then he was ok...
so I stand corrected....

Manual Cam Chain Tensioners

Manual Cam Chain Tensioners
Manual cam chain tensioners are designed to
replace the automatic and hydraulic tensioners on
high performance engines. The automatic adjusters
can back out when the throttle is closed suddenly at
high rpm. This allows the cams to go momentarely
out of time, and can result in bent valves and/or
serious engine damage. Hydraulic tensioners have a
tendency to put too much tension on the chain
guide under high rpm/high oil pressure conditions,
resulting in premature wear.

Both problems can be eliminated with the installation
of the manual tensioner. No mater what the
engine does, the cam chain tension will remain
constant. A manual cam chain tensioner is a
must for any kind of performance riding.

I did have a stock tensioner snap the roll pin at deals gap several years ago. I tried to buy a new one (tensioner)at the dealers but they didn't have one in stock so I took the shank of a drill bit the correct dia and cut me a pin off of it. It's still in my original 12 and it works great. A solid pin is much stronger than a roll pin. We used drill bit shanks all the time to replace roll pins when i was in the USAF. You just have to stake them in the hole using a center punch so they don't fall out.

For what it's worth...........my pin also broke on my stock tensioner. Luckily, no damage.
I'm using a manual one now but I'm always wondering if I have it adjusted okay.

Ryan, the last time I looked I could not find them under the ZX12R Parts. Are they Cross referenced or do you have to search for Cam Chain tensioner only? Could not find them at Muzzy either!
