scuffed buckets: replace 'em???

scuffed buckets: replace 'em??? or not???

pretty much all of my buckets are scuffed on the sides where they ride in the head. The top surface where the cam hits 'em is fine.

What do you think?

Post a picture.

If it's the usual wear deal, mic the OD in the center of the scuffing, then 90 degrees away... if you get much over a thousandth difference or more (out of round), pitch them. If not, polish it off with a fine scotchbrite pad and run em. This isn't a terribly critical dimension, but if they are obviously bad, don't take a chance.

speedfab,
thx for the input. i'll pull a good sample and mic 'em, but my inclination is to pitch them, like you say, no need to take a chance.

ra12r was doing research on that possibility quite a while ago, but I decided that getting 16 holes "drilled out" to a very high level of precision was more than I wanted take on.

How much room do you have on the sides of the buckets where they are
getting scratched on? If ya have at least .001 then ya might consider a
dry film lube coating.

I don't know too much on them either, but it is very similar stuff to piston
skirt coatings and it would have to be at least .001 on each side for
clearance. Just thought I would mention it to see if others on this site
had any experience with coatings as they tend to be relatively inexpensive.
