revisited: oil in the catch bottle...
Thanks to you folks, I stopped worrying about filling the airbox drain bottle with oil every pass, and took yr advice and carefully looked at my oil level.
Yep, it was too high, prob 3/4 on sight glass, when youse guys said a bit less than 1/2. So, I drained out a cup+ of oil and the level was just below 1/2. Fine right?
However, I strapped the bike down, took it around the block and upon return noticed that the oil level was now above half. WTF??? Sooo, leaving it strapped I took another cup or so out. Then the level was 1/3 to just below 1/2.
Went to the track last Sun, and low and behold, the catch can got very, very little oil in it. Success!!
Lesson
1. don't overfill the oil
2. check the level when its strapped, if you strap it at the track.

After changing the oil and (stock) filter, add exactly 3 quarts of oil. Put the bike on a rear stand and mark the sight glass with a permanent marker as a reference point. If you want to run a little less when drag racing, remove whatever you feel comfortable and make another mark. From what I've seen on the dyno there was no gain in HP between half a sight glass and a third, so don't waste your time draining a couple oz's. Why lose protection for no gain?

I would only check the oil with the front strapped enough to make the bike sit as it normaly does...STOCK...
I would also do as Koz says and refill with the "proper amount of oil"...then? "let the bike decide" how much IT wants to keep...I.E. drain the catch bottle as it needs it until no more oil gets in it...
