removing air filter

Does anyone make a cover for the slots if you take the air filter out at the track?Or does everyone run with the filters in place?

i dont think you will see any hp gains without an airfilter, even though guys I am sure do it....
go with the K&N or BMC race filter....

I have the K&N filter.I was under the impression removing the filter gave more air and was common.

I have NOT run tests on the 12 on this, but it's common for a good filter, e.g. the BMC's, to actually give a little more power than no filters. The reason is that the airflow can be better dispersed among the intake stacks with the filters acting as diffusers than allowing gusts, vortexes, etc to hit the stacks.

While it is possible to design an airbox to not need the filter to accomplish this, the engineers for the 12 may well have felt no need to optimize the design for no-filter use. So it's possible that you'd have airstreams blowing hard onto some stacks and not others, or have vortexes (whirlpools so to speak) without them. Only testing with vs without would resolve that, and it's possible it would have to be on the road for the results to be valid, due to the Ram Air.

But it would not be a hard test: if the trap speed is no slower without the filters than with BMC's, then there isn't a problem there. Of course, if the trap speed is no faster, then you're getting no benefit either...

I meant big budgets for motors...Sure no running no airfilters, what are the chances of shit getting in the motor...Just a little security instead of 1-2 horsepower!!!

I hear some guys in FL are doing it and found a gain......, thinking of trying it myself......., cheaper than a BMC, and my bike only sees the track and maybe a loop in the subdivision to keep it from sitting..............., neighbors thought it was cool when it was in pro et trim with a big slick and bars......ha ha

If it's for the street, it'll give ya a good reason for a big bore kit in
a few thousand miles. I think it has given some about 5 extra
HP tuned, maybe a little more. A little nos will get you a touch
further though and ya might even get to feel it in the seat of
your pants.
