Drag racing setup questions!
have had my 12 since i bought it new in 03. Got alot of use outta of it but now it's time to set it up for the strip. It's got a Yoshi RS-3 race can and a 17t front on it and the rest is stock. All original clutch and chain. NOW....my best time and is at a consistant 7.1 @ 106 1/8 and a 10.75 @ 132.38 1/4. Might be good for running bracket but im all about heads up! Now..that's pretty shitty considering the bike but im a blistering 270lbs. This is ridin the clutch out in first and then just rockin out after that. now to the point......I wanna hit the 9's. That's it. Im not worried about daily driving it anymore so it's open game. IM thinkin stretch it and go with a bigger rear sprocket. I just need to keep the front down. Everytime i get ballzy and get more aggresive it rears up on me. If i run another 10.8 im gonna shit myself. What combo of parts would yall suggest i use. Im not a professional and not quite a novice. So im not looking for a turbo and im not lookin of just a sprocket change. Iv been looking at drag radials, swingarms, piston kits, nitrous, power commander, sprockets, wheeliebars (if i could find one) EVERYTHING. It's all open..but i just wanna get some feedback from you guys to see what works for yall. Just let me know. THANKS FOR YOUR TIME.

At your weight you need a 6 over swingarm and I recommend a 16-47 setup, but if you dont want to switch the 17 front, then just put a 50 in the rear, put a Pirelli super corsa sc2 on the rear and slam it...
Keep the bike just as is now, but you need a Billet Clutch Basket, then go to as many track rentals as possible for practice, practice, practice...It takes a long time to get the clutch and throttle in sync to get those low 60' and 330s...If you do a motor, nitrous and all the go fast goodies then you make it harder for yourself to learn the bike...You must practice and learn the 12 before you get the go fast goodies, to go real fast...

thanks for the advice...that sprocket combo is what i had in mind. the 17-50. It makes me mad cuz iv been to my local track COUNTLESS times and have piles of time slips and it's alwayz the same thing. With the stretch would i have to get an entire swingarm or are extensions even safe? also where can i find a chain to fit that stretch. I dont think i wanna add links to mine cuz of it's age but i will if i have too.

Get the EK DRZ 140 link chain...
This is a non o-ring chain that you lube with 90 weight oil...

If i had to do it over from scratch. i'd do it in this order.
1. billet basket,
2. lowering links and strap
3. pc and pipe
4. sprockets 17-50.
5. swingarm 6" over, perm or bolt-on
6. air shifter
7. nitrous
8. piston kit
9. valve springs
10. stroker
11. headwork
12 cams
reasons:
1-3 just the basic for a zx12
4-6 getting into a drag race setup
7 getting serious about racing , start small, 40 shot puts you over 200 on stock motor .
8 step up the game
9 insurance for the nitrous
10 want to be a big player
11-12 all out racer now
some suggest aftermarket valves. I didn't and don't know where to put them on the list.
good luck

Like CrotchRocket said....practice,practice,practice...then some more practice..Billet Basket for the clutch is a must..The 12 is a tough bike to drag race..requires clutch and throttle technique that can only be acheived through ...did I mention practice? A good coach helps too,Thanks CR!!

If you are really serious and actually mean what you said about getting into the 9's, then you have to get healthy first. Everything worth anything takes sacrifice and discipline. Getting healthy alone is enough to get you those times. The interesting part is that your skills will increase, MPH will increase, sex life will increase, about everything will increase as your health increases. Well, except your times will decrease........

Rk makes a roller chain, within like 500 lbs tensil of the DRZ, that is lighter, and still fast, I just picked one up, i iwll let you guys know how it works.
I have a slightly used DRZ, for a 6 over arm for sale for 50 bucks. it has 8 races on it, about 50 passes, adjusted twice.
