Everyday riding with 6" swingarm???
Hey, anybody ride everyday with the swingarm extended???
I am just wondering if it will really effect the handling. I plan to drag race then everyday ride as well. I have the 0" - 6" extended swingarm, extra rim/tire and Materlink to reduce the chain. But that's alot of work to tranfer everything back.
Would it be a big deal (Handling) if I left it at 6" and just changed the tire/rim???

I have a 3 inch over JMC arm with the front lowered 1 1/4
inches and the rear lowered 2 inches. The 3 inch extension definately made the bike turn in slower but it feels more stable at WFO. The bike was lowered before I installed the 3 inch over arm so the changes are due to the extension. I expect a 6 inch extension would slow the turn in more. There are no unpleasant handling problems with the 3 inch extension and I would'nt expect any from a 6 inch extension unless you want to run deals gap with it. You're a drag racer girl so set it up for the 6 inch extension and switch wheels. Good luck, look forward to seeing how you do with the new setup next season.

Thanks John
That's what I thought. I do like to take the curves at a little of an aggresive pace... I'll have to check out how bad it will slow me down.
I did see a guy (Addison12) in Deals Gap with an extended swingarm. He didn't seem to have any difficulty keeping up with the GSXR750 boys!!!

ZX12girl,
I have a 4 inch arm on my bike. Works well, but if I leaned towards drag racing a little more I would go with the 6 inch because the 4 inch arm STILL wheelies at the top of 1st gear if you just whack it open, with -1 on front sprocket. If you didn't already get the 1270 I would think about getting the 1290 as I have, also changing the intake cam if you want 200hp at wheel.

Change the intake cam to what?
200hp without stoker is impressive.
who built it for you?

Craig Hansen of Flo-tec. He owns/built the bike that Jim Lauer uses in street et racing, the #1 plate 2 years ago. He builds REAL strong engines. Oh, the cam is custom regrind from Web we increased the lift a little bit, .035 I THINK. Craig is a little secretive/vague about some stuff.

Just need two chains...
ZX12Girl
Your swingarm IS adjustable is it not???
All you really need to change is the CHAIN!!!
If the original chain isn't long enough to use with your axle all the way forward on your new arm??? then you WILL need to buy another chain but...why should you need to change the whole swingarm???
One chain for short WB...one for long WB

No...Not the whole swingarm!!!! KCadby!
I have the 0-6" adjustable swingarm by Frank. Hubby put two masterlinks to extend the chain. I was just checking on different options - how to make it easier on him to switch it back.
Yes, he can change the tire, take out the links in the chain and adjust the swingarm. I am thinking about just switching tires!!!

And I thought that you had the 1270! Did you upgrade since last year or did you have the 1290???
I am only getting the 1270 because I want to have everyday streetablity (is that a word...LOL). I love to dragrace but I enjoy my bike everyday as well. I wanted something that was dependable, reliable and no risk!!! I do understand that I would have been okay with a 1290, but I took the safe route!

Went with the 1290 right off the bat. 20cc not much difference anyway, reliability is why no stroker yet, will go with a billet crank next winter. The 12's crank isn't the strongest in the world, strong enough stock but get's a little iffy IF you ride a lot of miles & stroked. I have put over 9000 miles on the 1290 with no problems.

Sorry...just read the post again...doh...
I don't think it's that big a deal to change the chain length though...ESPECIALY if you have 2-master links
We have an extra wheel for John's bike for the street tire (thank's Mad Mike)...STILL didn't get it Powder Coated yet (it's RED)...

I have a Adjustable 6" on my Busa. It's lowered 2" in the back and 1.5" in the front. You will notice that your handling will slow down big time. After some ride time you get used to it.

So what do you prefer ride full blast for 9 secondes with a 6" over swingarm or Nice twiesties road and fun for a long time ?
I don't get it... ofcourse it's different when you have a seconde bike dho!..
Today there was this guy who wanted to race me with his busa ....find with me but what was funny it's that he wanted only on freeway straight line...
I'm sure the guy was from Florida
Next they will want to ride with a air shifter Brrrr!!!

There are different types of riding. I think that the ZX12R can be universal in that aspect! It's all about what you enjoy.
I do enjoy hitting the twisties but I would rather be flat lining at 180mph!!! That's what I like!

Zx12girl i know they are differents Adrenaline and fears factors...
Are you a bit Scared of draging the knees on the 12? or just because everyones around you drag races?
Can you tell me what exactly push you to race for 9 secondes?
I'm just very interested on your opinion and feeling for it..
I have a freind in France her name is Guenal and she race the 12 on tracks no drags..

This pics is before the mods.

"Everyone aroud me Dragracing???" LOL!!!
No, that is not why I like to drag race!! And I am NOT pushing for 9 seconds!!!! I am pushing for 8...
I drag race because of a thing call "G" force!!!! Acceleration!!! I enjoy the fight to keep the front wheel on the ground and all the hp to the pavement!!!
Next time you go riding, and you are stopped at a stop light, just act like your on the drag strip!!!
- Get your RMP's up to 6,000
- Start to ease the clutch out.
- Just enough to feel the bike ready to pull.
- Watch the light....
- Try to predict when your's will turn
- Ok!!! Go!!
- Before the clutch is all the way out, you should be at full throttle.
- If you DID not spin the tire, you already lost and you are not using ALL of the hp!!!!
It's all about putting all of your bikes potential power into action!!!! The time at the end is just a way to measure that...Just like the time that you get at the end of an oval track race!!!

I use to go at sears point to drag race on Wednesday evening..I know the deal with the race..
But i never got the G's Forces i wanted. Or maybe to go with the extrem Dragters.
Better G's are easy to find on 250 cc's GOKART . Try it ZXgirl you may realy love it..
For the extrem i went on the 7+ g's on voltige and Jet airplane where the G's and negative are king.. A blast.
But what is your regular fun with the bike beside the drag.?
I'm just asking the question because of the fact also to add an air shifter to a bike i don't get the point..If i add to get an airshifter i'll better go to the first park attraction and have fun there ...same thing
Soon they will take out the rider and mount a remote domy..
no?

I used to feel the same way about the airshifter!!!
But, I bought one and use it all the time! Most at the Strip! Now that I have been using it, I really like it!!!
Why do I use an airshifter - TO GO FASTER !!!!! Takes the human error out of it!!!
Maybe you are not into Drag Racing but for some of us...It's a blast!!! Where else can you get up to 150+ MPH legally!!!!
Ride Safe,
Angi

Yea i can see that
I guess we can say i'm a purist..
But you see in Europe we do go on the autoband full blast for a long time
One time i cross France north to south with out never been under 120 mph..
The best it's there are the races "24 hours le mans, Bol D'or , castellet" etc.. then we all go in Groupe full blast
