Slick question
Hello, first i live at a mile high track location. My bike runs consistant 10.0's @ 140 mph when the track is fair. When the track sucks(usually does) I run 10.3's no matter where i launch at. List of excuses dust, air density of over 9,000 ft, high heat and pretty high humidity, poor track prep, almost zero vht, can walk on the starting line and its not sticky at all, forget about traction right after the 60 ft, blows tire away for about 200 ft)
Here's my set up:
16-47 gear runs thru 4th
dropped to middle position on dog bones.
front end lowering straps
foot shifted
new shinko tire(super soft) use to run older shinko
stretched about 3 1/2 inch's
experimenting with 16-51 ( gets me thru traps at top of 5th gear)
I weigh 230 lb's in gear.
Mods to bike: carpenter built 1290, makes 193-195 on dynojet. actual hp shows 155 uncorrected.
60ft's with shinko on crappy track high 1.6's
On a great track prep i've run a best of 1.58
Two years ago I cracked a high 9.95 with a 1.62 60ft@140 mph. The damn track sucks and i can't get any decent 60ft's.
If i run a slick what else if anything do i need to do to my bike? What size slick should i use and what air pressure should i start out with. For the last couple of seasons i had one of the fastest street bikes at the strip. Now there are couple of fellas with busas and mr turbo kits running 9.6's@144-146 mph. Of course one of them weighs 120 lb's and his bike has a big slick and wheelie bar. I want to beat this guy and i am reluctantly considering getting some nos or even joining the wrong side to get the job done.
Any advice is appreciated

You can get a slick to fit your 6" rim. BUT ... You will not be able to do anything with it without wheelie bars. If you try it without bars, you won't be able to leave hard enough to keep the motor from bogging badly. So if a slick is in your future, get some bars and go up about 4 teeth (at least) on the rear sprocket.

Sounds like ya just need to work on that launch some more. I don't think a slick will fix anything. I think it'll hurt more than it'll help.
