Nitrous map suggestions
So I got the nitrous (dry) working good after a few bugs last time out. I put the smallest jet (.026) in it for testing and changed the map a bit just to be safe. The N/A map has alot of timing advance in it. It's +5° from 2k-about 6500rpm, and +8° from 6500-12000rpm. So I took all the timing out and added 15% more fuel from 7k-12k rpm.
The N/A map is pretty good, makes great power, a/f is good. If ya don't know the setup: 1287cc, Carpenter head, stock cams. 10,000 miles on it, roughly 200 passes, always on 93 octane pump gas, plugs are NGK CR9s (stock), Muzzy fuel pump.
Obviously, it runs like ass off the bottle with the modified map in it, and it runs marginally better on the bottle than it did with the good N/A map in it... atleast with that little jet in it.
Short of mapping it with a wideband, anyone have any suggestions on timing and fuel for this thing ? Would it be safe to back the timing a few degrees off the +8° it had in it, or should I really leave it at the 0 setting ?
I've played with this stuff before, but it was wet kits on 5.0 Mustangs that barely made any more power N/A than my bike does, lol.

Up to 40hp, you really don't need to pull any timing, or worry much about fuel. So either put the timing back, or put the BIG pills in it.

Wish we could have seen you all at Gville tonight... Track was good and the air was too. Plus there was a pretty strong running Busa putting down lots of 9.33's and a 9,28..

Dean, it just seemed like it has alot of advance over stock with the N/A map so I figured it'd be safer. I think I'll put most of the timing back and take out a lil fuel, try it, then check the plugs.
Nuke, had to work. Tried Gainesville AND Jax this past week only to get rained out. Who's bike was running ? You still waitin on that shim kit ?

I agree, better safe than sorry. Does the +8 number really mean total timing + 8 deg, or does it reflect the advance curve, bringing the motor to total timing at high RPM?
I pick up my new head from Ryan tonite - I am psyched ot see what difference it makes. I'm gonna take some pics - Kevin gets wood when he looks at it too long

Some folks say 2 deg of retard for every 50hp of spray BTW. What is total timing on your motor?

Dean, the +8° is the setting on the power commander, so that's +8° over stock timing. What stock timing is, I don't know, I think there was even a question posted about it recently (Lorcan I think).
The -2° timing for every 50hp is pretty standard. What I'm asking is should I be pulling the timing from the +8° or from stock. Guess I'm just a little leary of spraying on top of that much advance over stock, ever though the motor really likes the N/A timing.
Thanks Bergie, lol. Now pull the timing from stock or from the +8° ? and how much fuel ?

if you take the jet out, +30s from 7500 up or wherever you kick it on

Hmm, learn something new everyday. I didn't think you could add or subtract more than 5 degrees of timing with the PC3R. I'll have to mess around with mine some and see how she preforms...

Heh, I was just as suprised to see those values in the map when I first got a look at it.
The fuel isn't the issue, it's all that timing. Should I be backing the timing off the current map, or backing it off the stock "0" setting ?

Sterbator, Did you get that map you have from Carpenter? The one with the + 8 on the timing.

No, someone down south mapped it. Only thing from Carpenter is the head.

FYI- I pull -2 from zero @ Maxton, works for 200+ mph, bike runs better under heavy load on the top end with LESS timing, I don't care what the dyno says. I've picked up a solid 3 MPH pulling -2 naturally aspirated. Safer too.
