New World Record MPH! lol

Beautiful weather at the strip today. In the mid 70s and sunny. Best pass of the day came in the finals in a losing, double breakout effort, 9.44 at 152. Snoozed bigtime. Ran a .47, .48, and .50 also. Best mph was 155 but mostly 152s. Ought to be more left in er since I never got the front wheel in the air and short shifted 1-2 bout 9 grand every time. I'm afeared of it. BT010 stuck like glue all day. 60's ranged from 1.62-1.75 with 1.66 being bout average. Hit fifth gear roughly 100ft from the stripe shifting at 11000. I'm pretty happy with the motor but was hoping for 155 consistently. Might be my shift points. Still a great day!

I know I'm not the only one who raced this weekend. Let's see some numbers, here some stories!

Yikes Ken, 155? Now you're cookin' with fire! Congrats- you'll be in the 8s this season I bet. Gainesville was also beautiful Sat- cool and dry during the day, with a variable tailwind. Very strangely our ETs were almost identical - my best was a 9.44 @ 147, and I ran a 46 @ 144, 47 @ 145, and 51@ 146. Once your arm is on, I imagine that'll change though...

In the second round my opponent redlit, so I hit it hard off the line, shifted to 2nd...and got nothing. Turns out I sheared the posts off Carl's solid clutch hub. I got very lucky and all appears OK. I will swap out the hub & pressure plate with ZX11 units, and get a new snowflake. Pretty scary opening it up to a pile of broken parts. I have to warn Carl- maybe 95ftlbs and an airshifter is inadvisable without a damped hub.

I finally found a set of hot cams for the ZRX- a near-new set of Muzzy X3s- for $250. YEEhaw. Should be ready for Prostar.

So, are you gonna race in the TX shootout series? You're faster than a Highlands pilot I saw in November I bet- he was a good 250lbs.

Dean

Few months to go up north still. Man am I jealous. Great run Ken, Dean hope all is well with the innards. Scored a cylinder with my zx slugs (oil ring) looks like the 1109 kit for me unless theres other suggestions.

Dean, you should have pity on me and my slow ZRX and sell me those cams for no profit. What a find! Those are the big uns, ain't they? I'll bet they'll perk it up. Sux on the hub. For a brick(aero speaking), that thing really flies.
I'm hoping to do the whole shootout series this year, if all goes well. It's a blast racing with 100+ bikes.

Trap, you could re-sleeve that cyclinder for about $80 or so. Not sure if they come honed to size though. LA sleeve is where I got mine. Think I'm gonna send my other block to APE for a re-slugging this time. Only $95 to bore if you buy a piston kit from them. Your post at the other board really had me scared. Thought it might be terminal.

I can think of something I'd trade for the cams Ken... starts with a Z... they are .410 lift, 260 duration, about as hefty as they get. Kevin is gonna show me how to clearance them with the head on, should be a learning experience. I wish I knew the valvespring pressure of the Muzzy/ZX11 springs... I am gonna stick with the APE units for now, until i figure out how strong is too strong.

Ytrap- APE is http://www.mpsmall.com/ape/

17 toother on the front, stock rear, stock arm, 1361, no balancer, Lee's little cam on the intake, stock intake cam on the exhaust. Appears to be running fat as snot. Hope to get some custom mapping in the near future.

I checked a stock zx11 spring before I put my APEs in but bout all I remember was the zxs were less at installed height and less at full lift. $200 is pretty good insurance.

Thats a hot little combo you got there Ken. I mean with the cam swapping and all. Did you do any headwork? If you were shortshifting at 9k rpms I GUARANTEE you will go 155-157mph. If I short shift even 1 gear I lose 1 mph in the traps on any given pass. You get that arm on it and you can rev it and hit those 157s probably. Hell Karl was hitting 154mph a few weeks ago and he weighs 230lbs. Wish I had money for a motor. I am still pimp'n the 11k mile low compression boat anchor and squeezing out 151mph in good weather. No 152s yet. You should be in the 9.teens by the shootout no problem

must be nice to be able to run'em already! This cold shit has got to GO!

nice, consistant ET's guys. I'd have to say that 157's are there whenever you can use all of 1st gear!

Right you are, BA. Went 157.9 today with a 9.25 to go along with it. 60'-1.627, 330'-4.167, 660'-6.139 at 125.4. Felt like a great pass. Friend said I carried the wheel several inches all the way thru second. First pass was a 9.37 at 157 also. This was with a 16 toother today. Liked it. Need to get new rear sprocket to go with a 17 now. Rear is stock 46. Any guesses what I need? Oh yeah, only got those two passes in. Throttle stuck at 3/4 throttle after the second pass. Kinda spooky. Reached up and turned the key off at 157 or probably 160. Forgot about the kill switch. I never use that dang thing anyways. Just got the bike unloaded. Blasted air around throttle linkage between TBs and it now works although I heard or saw nothing being dislodged. Played with it at the track until I was blue in the face and had no luck. Raised the tank to check the inside of the TBs first. Gave up and came home. Air was great. Clear skies(nice barometer), bout 70, low humidity, and a slight tailwind. Got a nice facetan too.

Is the TPS removeable? Don't want to tear that sucker up investigating. Tweren't the throttle cables either. Both had slack when hung. The throttle stopped positively when it was hung and would go wide open like normal.

Saw a gixx1000 go 9.24 at 162 on a dry shot, full system, 6" over arm. He said he was pushing it. LOL He meant how much nitrous it was gettin.

Wow, that sucks Ken. hope you are sure you've got it figured out - it's hard for me to feel comfortable if some small part of my brain is wondering...is it gonna shift? is the throttle gonna stick wide open??? did I leave the iron on?

Anyway, 158?!!?!! That's hauling serious ass. A half day of practice and you shave 2 tenths already. Nice job. 123 in the 1/8 on a street bike- unbelievable.

Got the cams in, just barely put together the necessary shims to do it- much less compression at low/mid rpm, feels smoother and pulls a bit harder up top. I'll try them out on the 1/8 mile Jax race tomorrow, then at Prostar next week

Good luck with the throttle..nothing like an intermittent problem...rrrr

Ah, relief. Found the culprit. Nice chunk of good ol gravel between the TBs. The track I was at is fully paved. Kinda weird.

1/4 times

I need advice on setup and potential of my zx-12 with good rider (not me). The motor is a Muzzy 1270 with degreed cams, Muz pipe, K&N's, power commander, ported head. The best time it turned last season was 9.74 at 151.9 mph. wheelbase was stock with 17t front sprocket and front end pulled down, kennedy links on rear set at 2 inches drop. the rider was 185 pounds race weight. An average ticket would read rt--.505 60 ft--1.834 330ft--4.452 1/8--119.98 1000ft--8.299 1/4et--9.797 1/4mph--151.02. I know the first 330 ft is the problem and was wondering how much difference getting the 60ft times into the low 1.60's or high 1.50's would make on the 1/4 et and mph. This season I am going to run a 3" over arm and get the bike lower (tubes raised 1 1/4" and front strapped and the rear lowered 3") and try a 17t front sprocket with a 48t rear sprocket. any suggestions or advice from you serious racers.

The latter setup you mentioned is almost identical to mine save the swingarm length. It should help quite a bit over your previous setup. The key seems to be how fast you apply the throttle in first gear. 60's definitely make a difference but getting the throttle open quicker in first gear and shifting it at or close to the redline helped me considerably. I'm no expert, but it sounds like you're on the right track. Practice, practice, practice.

158mph!!!

Damn it, that biatch is rolling!!! Congrats. YOu get the arm on it yet? 158mph is making good use of your 200 ponies. Just practice your 60's and 330's and you'll go 8.90s NO PROBLEM! Nice work.

That is GREAT MPH!!!
SH*T...sorry I didn't get back to you sooner Ken...
What sprocket did you order??? I think a 50 on the rear will work good with the 17...
I might be wrong (haven't gone THAT fast...YET) but...I think a 51 will only be good for about 157mph (in 5th) depending on the tire size and traction...

Man O-man...8s with stock wheelbase would be INCREDIBLE!!!

A fifty would probably be great, Kev. Karl is hitting the limiter at 154 with 17/51. I've got a 49 coming. If I cross above 10k with it, I'll be happy.

Wow...Karl MUST be "squishing the tire" LOL
I "figured" the 51 would go OVER 155mph with the shootout tire?!?!?!
Sounds like you've got it figured right...DON'T need/want to rev the stroker TOO high

"squishing the tire" bahahahahahahahahahaha!

damn right! m even at 26# psi, my fat butt can squish a MTMCR2. The tire is pretty worn, and I'm replacing it today. Also the repeated 154.5 mph was hitting the limiter just before the finish line, and the mph is averaged over the last 60' (i think), so the real speed may be 156???????
