Engine Build Up

The most reliable race proven piston kit 1272 wiseco or 1287 or the 1317. For someone who plans on shooting a large amount of nitrous and a lot of racing. Which is the best direction to go is headwork needed are can we make up for it on the gun. Mods already done is 63 inches,Muzzy Full System, Air Shifter, Muzzy Advancer, Fast FI Mixture Control Box, 17/46 Gearing, Muzzy Dry Shot with 60hp. I am about 205 pounds with leathers on the bike is a 2001 ZX12R with 3000 miles on it. The bike dynoed out on the stk motor at 171hp and 217 on the gun. Best time on motor is 9.37@146MPH never had the opportunity to spray it cause something always happens. But all suggestion are welcome to make the perfect build for my size. Please include all small or big suggestion to the tee that can be done.

Tough question. If the 1317 uses offset bores, I might personally stay away from it if I were using big nitrous because offset pistons may put some side loading the pins and rods. On a n/a motor I wouldn't sweat it but not on big juice. Also, hp per dollar, the big block is hard to justify when you can just add a tad more juice. I'd see if JE makes a 1270 piston specifically for juice. The smaller bore will stay more round under big loads than the 1290 will. Probably not much difference but the juice should make up for the little ccs gained by going 1290. Headwork surely can't hurt and won't hurt your reliability either. Definitely put some aftermarket valve springs in it even if you don't get any headwork done. I'd also buy a controller for the juice so you can use it all the way down the track.

I agree with Ken. Kevin (kcadby) at Stock, Mild to Wild is building a progressive wet nitrous 12 motor with 1260cc MTC pistons, fairly high CR. Carrillos, supercrank, R&D trans. He picked a smaller bore to preserve thickness between the cylinders. If you plan on spraying a lot, maybe it's better to keep as much meat as you can on the block.
