how much differece did a good shock make

I going to be getting a shock revalved this winter. I was wondering who is good. I have race werks in mind they do all the shocks for lees performance. Very resonable i think only 175.00 for complete revalve. Does this seem fair also what kinda difference can ya tell on a launch. I have a best 60 of 1.60 with a 9 over arm. Weighting in at a feather light 300lbs. But i was running a totally stock gsxr 750 shock. Thats gotta help me some right?

The re-valve has helped me. I lost a tenth at launch once we got the proper set up. I was always having traction issues (spitting the tire). The shock set-up has helped a great deal. This may be different for you since I am a real lightweight.

For your weight, a 1.60 is not shabby at all. Some of the TFA guy's may be able to shed more light than I can (150 lbs makes a big difference).

Thanks zx12girl u said i would get it down and i did. But i think thats all i can do for now. My biggest goal is to get skinny like u. Then i can be real fast. Just hate to leave tfa. They just let me in a few months ago. A tenth at launch wow wouldnt that be so nice. I think i have a lot to gain seeing how i am using a stock shock. Plus the over braced arm is hittting causing no suspension. All thats gonna get fixed. plus sharkskins. no more mister have plastic or headlight. Hello 6.2 thanks gurl

Yeap.....I here ya on the "plastic or headlight"....LOL Too funny!!!

I was hitting the top brace of the swingarm as well. Underbrace on / Overbrace off and re-valved shock = No more traction issues.....unless we go to that crappy track on test-n-tune night...

I am predicting 1.55 in the near future for the Newbie TFA member!!

Being a big guy myself, buying a shock designed for drag racing, correct spring and proper valving has helped in alot of areas. A good shock matched to your combonation is a must.

TFA shock considerations...

The "substantial" members of TFA have to pay special attention to shock preload, and with an extended arm it it is almost guaranteed you will need a heavier spring (in addition to revalving).

I talked to Orient Express a couple years ago and ended up with a Penske shock with valving and spring designed for my 760# combo weight and 6" arm. It worked great. When I went to the 10" arm i was able to crank down the preload enough to keep my sag the same.

When I was getting ready to buy the shock I asked anyone and everyone about rear suspension set up, and got soooooooo many different opinions it was confusing, but I sure like what I have now.

I never directly compared length against the stocker, but it was supposed to be 1" shorter. The Penske was just under a grand; its got the remote reservoir, but if I were to do it again i would get the integral reservoir model and pay the xtra $150?? bux.

Any difference in 60 foot times. Mine are poor because it just wants to stand up. I cant really get all that aggressive. The revalve of the stock shock is only 175.00. But i will say he told me he would do whatever it took to make it work. So if it doesnt work or i change anything he will only charge parts. He is a great guy. Lee is running one of his shocks right now.

We've ordered a custom built HyperPro shock 1" shorter than stock. I think some of the fast guys are using HyperPro but after 3 months we are still waiting for ours. Never had a drag shock before so in combination with the longer/stiffer Spondon arm we now have I'm hoping for 1.3s (previously 1.47 with stock shock and JMC arm).

Boss:
i am no longer heavy enough to do HH, Aktins took 40 lbs from me

I am gonna put this new motor to the track asap, can't waste this HP weather!

dragg:
the difference in the better shock was ALL in the 60', but it is not a silver bullet. You still need correct body position, clutch/throttle mgmt. Also at 300# I would sure think about getting a stronger spring.
