freshening up the engine
I've read where members were having their motors freshened up.At what criteria or how many runs do you use as a guide line?Or is it,if the et drops .10 seconds then its time?I guess it could be good info to anyone considering buying a used bike,any info?thanx

Monitor the engines compression and oil pressure. The service book gives you a range the oil pressure should be at.
I would compare your compression to earlier #'s AND make sure all cylinders are within 5% of each other.
Keep everything properly adjusted (Valves, Cam Chain, Clutch)and KEEP YOUR OILING SYSTEM SERVICED (screen, rotor).....If all this is done, a "freshen up" may not be nessessary.

my motor gets "freshened up" when it stops turning. usually involves pistons, rings, bearings, valves, rods, crank, cases, timing chain, oil pick up, etc. but shit, i break everything i touch

oh yeah, and i forgot the head, cyl block, and cams; they've had to be "freshened up" from time to time.

cheap bastard hasn't been replacing the cylinder studs,they must be chrome!
