Kawasaki is DEAD

My 12 gave up the ghost last night
at the track. I hit the rev limiter
when the it didn't shift ON SPRAY.
Didn't knock or anything.
Next pass window in the block.
I need a cases or motor.

My guess would be that it damaged the bearing maybe nicked a valve ,just not bad enough to hear. During the ride to staging, burnout, 4k rpm stage , it loosen more.
probably could have heard it by then if listening. ADD SPRAY and BOOM!
my .02
Any other ideas?

Was it a stock motor 12? Did you install heavy duty valve springs in the head? I have heard that when you spray a 12 that heavy duty valve springs are needed from floating the valves?

yes heavy spring and sprayed many times.
When i get a new motor , it will get sprayed also.
Just make sure the shifter is working RIGHT.

Could someone explain how hitting the rev limiter causes a valve to float or drop?

I guess i was in the right place at the right time.
Even a stopped watch is right twice a day.

I have kicked myself all summer for not getting Ryan's
motor back in the spring, but it worked out ok in the end.

Can you give a little more detail:

Stock motor? How much spray (wet/dry)?

Fuel/plugs? Tuned to what A/F ratio?

How long on the limiter?

ZX-14, stock motor, Brock smeg/PC3, 63.5in, ~750#, 9.31 NA, 8.95 40-shot dry.

I did it the blind expensive way.
No dyno, so i tried every map know to man.
I would add or subtract fuel and read MPH.
Once i got a good base map, I spray on the
Safe side and read plugs.
34 (40hp)jet with 93 gas 3 bars up on the pc3.
switched to 18 22 (48 hp)wet with 2 degree pulled.
6 over swingarm spraying at the 60' mark when i can.
I hit the limiter pretty hard. Really caught me off guard because
it shifted all day, and I didn't have my feet on the pegs.
When i pulled the head i found the exhaust valves bent.
Over reving will eventually get you with or without spray!
I really don't think spray was the blame,
There was a loose nut in the seat (me).

Thanks for the info Ninja12. Sounds like you had a conservative (fuel/timing) enough setting.

The 12R cuts fuel as the rev-limiter right? I wonder why.
