Cam chain tensioner

Guys,I need some sound advice,I have a buddy's 99 GSXR-600 ,it occasionaly has a cam chain noise,I want to put a manual tensioner in it but I'm not sure of how to do it.Has anyone had any experience doing this type of job?Any help would be appreciated. This particular bike has a recall, but i'm not sure the dealer will honor it now,all the reading I have done on the subject tells me the manual tensioner is the way to go.
