MTC: still looking for the

I have a 2 stage MTC and haven't yet found the right spring for my weight/HP.

when compressed to 1.7"
- stock 2000 springs: 36-38#

- Muzzy springs: 54# +/-

- stock 2002 springs: 54# +/-

1. with all OEMs, i get too much slip outa the hole

2. with 3 Muzzy and 3 OEMs, it hooks well; TOO well.

The MTC shims make very little difference (1-2# max) and you can't stack too many of em in there because you'll get coil bind.

So I think i need some springs 44#+/- (@ 1.7") or so; Time to call Dr. Tony, eh?

thx Vincent,
i now see that brock is selling springs and i posted a request for info on his forum.

I really don't want to go 4+2, and don't even really like 3+3 mixing of springs. It looks like I am getting hot spots on the steels which MAY be due to uneven spring pressure on the pressure plate. I am not al all positive on this.

Thx again

Tony has softs, mediums and stiff springs for the 12. Check with them. Tony said do it till it wants to tote the front tire, the first 60ft is all static spring....with a multistage

That also depends on the gearing, HP, TQ, weight of bike, weight of rider and traction. I think a NASA degree is needed for this MTC I have.

Karl I can't see how staggered springs could lead to hot spots. The snowflake will distribute pressure evenly across the plate. I stagger mine frequently and I have never seen any sign of it.

If you stay with the soft springs and add some weights on the lockup wouldnt that do the job?...Mikey Slowe and John Flood rarely wheelie at the launch...

Karl do you have some weight on the front of your bike?

ARH: I talked with Tim at MTC, he's got a set of springs which measure 42# @ 1.7" compressed length; but I'll wait to see what "regalito" the cheeseman has for me tomorrow before. Hopefully JC's MTC springs are the ones Tim told me about. And, yep, the static springs give the clutch power until the mph get up there a bit and the centrifugal arms take over.

Dean,
I also doubt that staggering hard & soft springs would produce hot spots, but who knows???

CR: Lee, Bittersweet's builder/tuner showed me the data logging output on their 198mph +/- Busa and told me the tale of what it took to get that bike's clutch dialed in. WHOA!!! not a simple procedure to keep rpm at just the right point, no bogging, no wheelie.

Man, I don't know shit about this stuff. Thanks for all the input!!!

I guess I shouldnt have used Busa riders as an example and we 12 riders really cant use Busa setups, maybe just to understand how thingas are done!!!

Any of you guys ride both bikes know that the Busa is a piece of cake to launch!!!...Its tough doing R&D with minimal help!!!...Your doing a great job so far Karl...

I say you should go to a Prostar Race and ask Rickey Gadson to take a few passes on your bike and ask him for his recommendations!!!

Try Coby Adams 1-704-663-1905, I bet he has some good info. for ya!!!

you people need to add weight to the front too.

Karl, your stuff shouldnt wheelie at that length. Mike slowe and flood have tons of weight on the front of those bikes.

CR: I think i know what to do, i.e. get it to slip enough to keep revs up, but not lock up so that it pulls the f wheel off.

ARH: if the ckuch slips the right amount i don't think it'll wheelie.

Cheeseman sent me a set of MTC springs which are just about midway between Muzzy's and OEM's 2 short springs for each slot, stack em one on top of the other. They look kinda strange but have the right strength. Because they are short, the MTC shims have more imact on compression #.

Thanks JohnnyCheese!
