launching
I wish I knew how to post pictures but there is a shot of me launching on Dragway.com under the news section(Jul17 019.jpg)Do I need to lay over the tank more?

1. *right click* on the picture
2. Click on "properties"
3. Highlight the test after 'Location'
4. *Cntrl-C* (copy)
5. In the quick reply section, *Cnrtl-V* (paste)
This should come up:
http://www.dragway.com/SatSlideShow/images/Jul17%20019.jpg
6. put {img} before the above, then {/img} afterward. But, instead of {}, use []. The first {img} tells the software that an image is coming. The {/img} tells the software that this is the end of the image string.
Now give it a try.

As for your launch, yes, you should be on the tank more, but it's hard to tell whether or not you actually are by the launch picture. I normally start off with my chest on the tank. But, before I moved my pegs, my lack of flexibility made it mandatory for me to pull my upper body up so that I could get my legs on the pegs.
This is one case where a video camera will tell you much more.

Do what's most comfortable for you AA, if the front comes up, you'll naturally shift your weight to prevent it in the future. I tend to get out as far as I can on the tank.

As long as you dont go into a giant wheelie... your body position looks ok.
You can position one leg behind you as a ballast of sorts. Usually the right leg works best, so you can get the left leg up to shift.
A scooped or stepped seat will help you keep your body position consistant

looks okay? uuuuhhhh NO. That looks like you're riding on a Sunday cruise. You need to get WAY WAY WAY more aggressive in body position. In the photo above the rider is almost sitting straight up!

thanx for input, going again tonight for more practice.Only had one bellypan flashing, the rest of the time it would just squat and go.I'm going to try launching at 7000-7500 tonight because those people watching me said I'm still not launching hard enough to lift the front end yet. This is the kind of school I like!

more RPM isn't the solution, it's letting the clutch out QUICKER and getting more aggressive on the throttle at the same time. 7500 is way too high

I agree with Bergie, if you can't get the bike to wheelie launching at 5000 rpm, then you are definitely letting the clutch out too slow.

You will only get better with more seat time, so bring it to the track !

Something is wrong then because I brought it up to 8000 and dumped the clutch. No wheel spin, only a little hop with the front end and the clutch is good,35lbs.in the back tire and I still only ran a 10.39-1.81/60

I can tell you what's wrong;
you're not TWISTING THE THROTTLE AT THE SAME TIME
you can rev it to 10,000 rpm and dump it but unless you TWIST the throttle it will just bog over to zero.
Don't worry about numbers, LISTEN to the engine.
NO DROP in the tone, you want it to increase! TWIST IT WOT

have to agree with Berg's assessment there.
I like to call it the "feed and twist". ( naming convention ala the ol' "snap and slide")
It sounds like your actual throttle opening is probably very minimal, you then pop the clutch out and that 5000-7000rpm becomes Jack!
You don't want to dump the clutch anyway, you probably know that. You feed it out aggressively while rolling into the throttle hard. Together, they should obviously cause your front wheel to just skip off the ground a couple of inches.
By watching various personal videos, I guess-timate that I do this all the way out to the 100' area and it would span about 3 seconds worth.
Bergie has a video on his website of an 8.99 run I think, some green 12R, and I also have a Vid on my red 12R running a 9.34, and on both vid's the sound is real good for hearing that rpm and clutch sliding out.
I could send it to ya if you if it would help? Or, it might still be at zx-12r.org.

RAC4IT and BA,I think your right. My brother says he can hear the motor bog a little and then take off.I think I'm fighting that psych thing as to whether or not its going to jump up and by the time I realize and react,I've lost out.But damn,I'm going to keep trying.I just brought it in to ECP to have a CO2 shifter, shift light and tether put on.He's going to put it on the dyno to see what kind of reading I'm getting with the Ti-Force(the bike was mapped with an Akro)Still waiting since May for SBM 1320.Was all set to cancel order when I found out Muzzy's was another 8-12 weeks.Sounds like I need to take 2 steps backwards befor I get more H.P.that masks my technique.

Granted this example is on a 10R but the video is probably the best teaching tool I've ever posted, check out this one and LISTEN as you watch, remember it next time you goto the track:

My friend launches like you might be Aliveagain. He's on a 9R, and I'm slowly breaking him of the habit, but he keeps flip-flopping between:
A. 6000rpm at the line.....lights count down...... Green.... Then the revs are only high for about 10 feet after that. Got it on film and showed it to him.
B. To fix this, hehehe, sometimes he sits there at 6000rpm, launches and keeps it at 6000-8000 rpm for like the full 60-80 feet out of the hole, and then ends up with a 1.9x 60' time. hahahaahaaa
One day, he'll find a happy, aggressive medium between those styles and the 60's will drop like crazy.
