My 1361 Crank Update
Thanks to Doug Meyer and Muzzys for promptly sending me out a replacement 4mm stroker crankshaft. I'll keep you posted on the installation progress.

I was told that the original crank I received was "usable" and that there was nothing unusual about the balancing work except that it could be slightly cleaned up. Muzzys was very friendly about the process and offered me a new crank even though I expressed that I would be willing to accept the original one as long as it met with their approval. I received the new crank within 7~10 days after shipping out my original- impressive turn around and good customer service. I am very happy with the "appearance" of this replacement although I am sure the original would have worked I just was not thrilled about the way it looked. Just goes to show how much Muzzys cares about the customer that they are willing to swap out a crankshaft like that. Yet another reason I purchase just about every product they bring to market for the 12. I think the only thing I don't have is their new ECU simply because I dont have the cash and I have not yet seen it in action.

Hey Doug, I would be interested in the "bad" crank.

This crank looks much better. Doug posted that they occasionally see cranks with the balance holes drilled through the web. ra12r just posted his looked like yours did. This one has really nice radius on all the welded journals and appears to have more weld material on the outermost area of the journals. I've not seen this posted but I'm sure you're aware of the need for the bearing shells to have clearance for the nice fillets on the journals. RAC41T, on your Maxton run, did you use your strip gearing and did you hit the limiter? Thanks for all your help by the way.

I used stock gearing 18/46. No where near the limiter in 6th although I ran 2nd~5th to 12000. There was a 10~12 mph headwind both days during the October 2001 event as you can see from the flag in this photo:

I think that low 19x would have been possible that day had there been no wind. During some of the runs I had run through the traps in 5th many times at 175 ~ 177mph when I was having problems with my shifter (could not get it into 6th gear). Once it went into 6th instant 185s. Note that ECTA/Maxton event it is not true top speed it is a measured mile from a standing start.

cool Maxton pix!
Bergie,
Great photos.
Question: do they allow slamming the bike? You bike looks like it could come down at least an inch, and you know better than me that every bit helps.

Yes you can lower it to your suit whatever pleases you, however the runway is very rough (as evident in the photos below) it is by no means smooth. Therefore I opted to use the middle setting on my Muzzys lowering links and drop the forks 1/2" in the clamps. I had previously made several passes with my drag racing straps pulled somewhat tight on the front however since the course is so rough it scared me into pulling the strap off the front (I could feel the front tire leaving the ground in 5th gear when strapped). The photo link below is from the previous event in September and shows some good shots of the ground surface.

There is really no need to pay in advance for registration. They accept cash and checks on site during the events and your membership is based on a one-year renewal from the time you pay not end of calendar year. I paid at the September event so I'm good until this September. Hope to see you guys there at the first event March 23-24. I will be staying at the Pine Acres Lodge (the recommended event lodging in Lauriburg NC).
