Normally, I would say that you unported the oil pickup, but you were on a dyno. I don't know what causes this on a dyno. Ask Bergie. He did the same thing on a dyno too.

man that sucks dude!! WAY!!!! Sucks!!! been there done that. tell us more about what happened??? what run was it? how hot was it? when is the last time you changed your oil? what kind of oil were you using? was it full?
I know these sound like dumb questions but I am trying to figure out why?
oh couple more.
How many clutches have you went through? when the engine was done did they clean the oil pickup? what cylinder was it? anything else you can share would be great!
Mad Mike.
If you need someone to do your motor I would love to help you out!!

I spun a bearing in my stroker motor also on the dyno about 2months ago.
Don't think it was the dyno's fault, just happened while I was on it. It was on cylinder # 2. Had approx. 4000 miles on the motor. Changed the oil about every 1000 miles, if not more frequently. Oil pickup was not that dirty.

1bad - better check your wrist pins when you tear into your motor. One of mine was ovalizing the piston pretty bad the the other 3 were on their way.

Same thing happened to me, but only after 8000+ street miles, 650+ drag strip runs and a couple dozen +/- 200mph maxton runs. I was on the dyno the week before an ECTA event and first saw like 16hp loss on one pull, then another 30hp loss on the next pull, decided to quit. The crank had a crack on one of the journals that was welded up for the stroker, and the bearing were chewed up. I didn't mind because A) it saved my ass from losing the engine the following week at 200mph and B) I got more than my fair share of use out of it.

Like mentioned above, improper prep can cause short life, they say clean it, clean it and clean it again to be sure, those oil gallies in the crank can contain tons of garbage from the manufacturing and polishing process. Also could be that it cracked, you wont know until you take it out and magnaflux the crankshaft or at least visually inspect.

One thing I advise to people using the dyno is do NOT use the dyno brake to "load" the engine. Some dyno operators do this to simulate load on the engine, fuck that! Don't do it! Only use the dyno brake to slow the wheel down after a pull, nothing more!!

tn1361, is your bike the red&black one at Chris Hill's ? Thats were i was yesterday and I saw that motor. Man that Chris knows his shit.
Bergie, yes he did use that brake to simulate the load.
Just hope its not too bad in there.

Yes, that is my bike. Just had my crank fixed and inspected. Had to buy all new rods, pistons, and bearings. Should be ready to go in about 2 weeks. Going to try to make the Maxton meet in June.

I'll never brake load my shit on the dyno again, maybe it's not related but I've seen 4 bikes come apart within days after beating on them on the dyno with the dyno brake. Probably not related, but I'm not taking any chances. Use the dyno brake to slow it down after a run, not load it up during a run.

news to me 2 years and not one problem?????
Or at least I can pin on the dyno.
But then again the 12 might be a POS compared to a Busa

Seems like some sort of pattern here as Supramans 1361 came apart on the dyno too and he had about 800 breakin miles on his with no problems.

johnnycheese, I don't think it's a question of the type of bike, rather the weld-up stroker cranks being used, in either case this isn't a busa vs 12r issue or forum

Now I need a good engine builder. The guy who built mine is out of buisness now, so I'm stuck with a dead motor.

LMAO........LOL.

I know that Entropy has a billet no problem yet I did another one with a welded up and no problem on his either both are 1427's the welded up on has over 75 passes on it now so I have no answer

Brake Dyno's don't hurt your engine......Load is Load.

A weakness in your oiling system WILL be revealed in a high load environment (top speed run or dyno)

I would double check Rod Indexing at tear down along w/ an oiling system inspection.

Why don't you tell that to the Truck driver's. They could just use their Ford 150's to pull anything. We wouldn't need a "BIGGER TRUCK" with a "BIGGER MOTOR" with a "TOWING PACKAGE" if load didn't effect things. The point is LOAD will break your equipment, if your equipment is not designed to handle the load.

Bikes will run for thousands of miles with NO ISSUES. But, on a dyno, they blow up REGULARLY because why.........??? The oiling system changes when you put your bike on a dyno???

A person can do roll-ons all day and night for weeks and months and it will NOT do anything but burn gas. But make any bike work an un-natural force (IE: the wheel drum and then a brake) it puts way too much resistance for the design of the machine. The resistance for acceleration of a bike with rider, is not even close to the resistance created by the drum.

His bike didn't blowup at the track, it blew up on the dyno like thousands of other bikes. It ran fine, and then He decided to "dyno tune". The dyno KILLED the motor!

Even if it went 160 pulls on a dyno, that is how many miles?? Seeing that you can hit the rev limiter in just a matter of feet or at least 4 times in a 1/4 mile. That comes out to about 16 pulls = 1 mile. That would be 10 miles of use on your motor. So you tell me,,,,,Do Dyno's KILL engines???

I will repeat....... A Brake Dyno is a "High Load" environment. Roll-on's do not compare! A sustained high speed run IS a very high load.

High load environments will expose an oiling weakness in your system.

All this bable comming from a guy who "machines" his passages to solve a "cooling" problem. LOL

BTW, Bike's don't "blow up regularly" on dyno's.

Think about how many bikes and engines are dyno'd every day across the country! If dyno's hurt engines, someone would develop another method of tuning engines!

must have trashed the mains and cases.
Any salvagable parts. I could use the pistons, and cyclinder.
