just popped my cherry
Raced for the first time today and had a blast.A lot of lessons learnt.Needed to put a 2by4 under the front wheel to fit the wheel into the chocks and clear the brake disc.First run, brought it up to the line, activated the lights, set my rpm's and I look up to find the light had already turned green.I had problems all 5 times of hitting the rev limiter from the 2/3 shift.Spring came off the kickstand(schnitz adjustable)one run and had to hold it in place with elect tape.Shifter rod backed off my home made rear sets in fourth on next run, note to self, use loctite stupid.Another run I missed the turn in spot and was duly noted to go to the next pull off and not do a u turn on the track.DOH!I had a hard time seeing the finish line each run as the paint had worn off.My first run was a 11.22 with a 2.00 60 ft time.Best time,10.82/132mph and a 1.90 60 ft time.Next time I hope to concentrate more on the launches. There was only 3 other bikes there and it was very low key,no pressure fun nght for this old 275lb. fart.I may not be that quick but at least I can say I did it 20 years from now, instead of I wish I had.

Glad you had the chance to get to the track and have fun! Next time you can concentrate on things like shift points, body position, and launching to get that ET down and MPH up! Good luck let us know if you need any advice.

turboblew, you might be right because I think I remember concentrating on staying low and mesmerized by the acceleration. My 3/4 shift I think I was doing it by ear.I don't ride fast on the road so I'm still aclimating to the speed.HaHa that and I was scared. Is it me or does it seem that you're going faster at the track then on the road.thanx for your support.

Funny,I just sold my Harley today and had been thinking of possibilities. After Wednesday,I think I need to control the clutch better and learn the basics befor I get over my head and bore or stroke it.Its amazing how quick time flies and things I took for granted,I now had to think about.I did 1 run with the visor up.

Glad you had a good time! You did pretty good. I am a little heavier than you (not much) My fastest time so far is 10.25@142. My fastest mph was right at 144. My bike runs 149.? with a lighter person on it.I am going back to the dragstrip soon myself. I miss it.

Is your bike stock still?
My first time ever down the track I went a 10.36 at 132. End of the night I went a 10.29 at 136. Bone stock not even lowered or a strap. I weighed 275 with leathers on at the time.
Get you launch down and work on being smooth. Practice. It is addictive as hell!!!

Nice going dude!!!...So, how much did you really like it???...Challenging isnt it???...Just remember all the things you did wrong the first few times down the strip...When you correct them you will be amazed how much faster you will be going!!!
When you launch the bike try to keep the rpms the same till the clutch is all the way out then pin the throttle...
