I would agree if we were taking about a wearable item or if the basket was a few years old.
I also understand racing parts and the fact that you are screwed. Even a world class manufacturer has a certain level of risk to create a defect. I know that there are idiots out there and Falicon can not be responsible for all of them.
But, there is NO manufacturing process that has ZERO PPM's and ZERO opportunities for a defect nor 0 sigma. You can NOT design or maintain a process with ZERO defect.
They should have at least had him send it back for evaluation. I am sure that they have equipment capable of evaluation material degradation and competent engineers that could tell the difference between a manufacturer defect and abuse.

I did send it back and they looked at it. I realize it's a race application. I'm just on the very low-load side of the equation. Slick/bar or high HP and I would expect that. I think the "abuse" of mine was much less than others than aren't failing. I don't know if the quality control is consistent across these parts.
We'll see. I've bought a new one, and I'm gonna put a dry-shot on (still stock arm). It will see 50-100 passes this season. Hope everything holds together.....

that's cool jess, I was pulling your chain.
there's obviously no 'obligation' but a Good Faith action would have garnered more good press and customers than the $300 would have bought them.

Jess you have a point and I understand, but I will buy another billett basket and it won't be a falicon. Mtc makes good billett baskets too.

I have used MTC on all my old KZ's. Good shit. I have had problems with a couple cranks I had Falicon do also for the Z's. Had Pearson do the last one and it has been great.

Well gang it happened again. Less than 50 passes. About 1/2 were sprayed in 2nd or 3rd with 20-40hp.
Cracked Falicon Billet Clutch Basket.
Who else has broke these and how? My launch is 3.5-4k then slip as quick as possible without a bog. Then roll-on the throttle. I don't dump the clutch. No hot-lappin either so heat shouldn't be an issue. OEM frictions and OEM 2.0mm steels.
Hell, I put that many passes on the stocker before I got the Billet Basket (for insurance) and didn't hurt it at all!

Perhaps somethin else is goin on there?

does anyone think that oiling (it's a 2000 model) deficiencies could contribute to the basket failing (due to excess heat)? I'd almost buy that, except the steels aren't even discolored.

well, the steel dis-coloring is directly dependant upon how much you're slipping the clutch of course. (assuming good springs and your power level)
Technically the basket can still get crazy hot.
Have you done any other oiling mods besides the basket?
Does anyone know if the Falicon uses a bearing like the Muzzy kit? Doesn't the Muzzy kit have something done to the oiling holes in that bearing?
I have about 10,000 miles and a few hundred passes on my basket, no problems. (street tire, stock arm, uber clutch slipping)
Perhaps your bearing is not perfectly round?? (or elsewise bad)
I have done all the oiling mods that I can! (also a 2000 model)

The basket is seperate from the Muzzy clutch parts.
I would suspect if you dont have the Muzzy bushing at least (part # M1200-1934)... you should get one ASAP!
I cant imagine the basket breaking unless you are throwing the clutch away and the tire sticks like glue.... even then.

My bad, I was trying to draw the comparison between the "entire" Muzzy clutch offering. ie. basket, drilled hub, center bearing and the 2.0mm OEM steel plates with OEM fibers. (one less of each compared to stock, right?)
I figured the center bearing/bushing was important to have, like that drilled hub.
So, Roger, do you know if you have a Muzzy hub? (what the steel plates go on)

It's the stock hub ('00), and as you know, things are very dry in there.
I suppose I'll just pop a muzzy hub in there to improve oiling on my *next* falicon basket.
I'm pretty frustrated. It pisses me off that the Busa guys (who outnumber me anyway) are hot-lapping with completely stock clutch/basket with no problems. I may switch teams this winter and go to the dark (UGLY) side.
Someone who wants to host the pic email or PM me and I'll forward it.

Farmer get the,
OEM # 13087-1183 hub from a 2002 ZX12, $ 85.00... has the Biggest oil passages!!!
OEM # 92144-1881 clutch springs-get 6, $ 24.00
OEM # 13089-1123 steel plates-1.6 get 11, $ 77.22
OEM # 13088-1131 friction plates-get 12, $ 124.00
and get a new hub nut # 92015-1555, $ 5.37
all from RonAyers.com!!!
Question: What are you tightening the hub nut with??? and what do you use to hold the hub as you tighten the hub nut???
With that set up I do 2 back to back passes with 20 minutes cool down and get 120 passes out of my clutch!!!

Harry ZX-12,
What' s the hostility about? Apparently you haven't learned the difference between standing behind your product, and acknowledging that all items have a shelf life; especially when DRAGRACING you big dummie! Did you miss the part where the basket had 200 passes on it???

Rick, the Falicon supporter above says it's ok for the basket to crack every 200 passes on a stock motor....as I say, you've just got to laugh.
