Lowering the front, installing the safety hose clamps

Another question,
I went and purchased some high quality, very strong hose style clamps to use as insurance to prevent any possibility of the forks sliding further through the triple tree after I lower the front end.
Beneath the lower tree clamp I notice the forks taper to a narrower cross section, this taper is quite significant.
Do I install the clamps under the lower section of the tree (where the forks taper) or install them under the top section of the tree where the forks do not taper?
I'm concerned that if the clamps are installed on the taper, it wont take much of a hit for them to become loose and ineffective.
Thanks,
NOS Rob

Why don't you shorten your forks internally?

I got a set of tubes Id sell you for $180 shipped. The seals are blown.. but you'll need to replace those anyway when you do the internals. I think Schnitz sells the kit for $75. Or I could have my guy do it and sell you the forks at cost.. ready to bolt on.
Maybe even work a trade if youre interested.

Rob, you are in my park now! When I lowered my front end, I found that the max is 1.5 inches and you must tightened the hell out of the clamps! I also bought the european thick stainless hose clamps! I put them under the top clamp and under the lower clamp! The neat thing here is when you raise the front, you still have the clamps in place so you know exactly where the tubes slide to! I have never had the problem of the tubes sliding up from a wheelie or bump!
