Reed valve removal!
I have seen lengthy posts about blocking off the kleen air ports with plates or just joining the 2 pipes together, etc but no real mention of whether or not you should remove the reed valves themselves. I know almost everyone has done the mod so please let me know what is the best thing to do?
Thanks in advance!!!

I utilized the reed vales to evacuate crankcase pressure. The suction is so great, I had to utilize re-enforced, braided clear tubing between crankcase vent and reed valve. This was also in conjunction with sealing off all leaks in the frame / airbox. Removing the feed tube from airbox to valve was one of the "leaks".
Dyno results were impressive. From WOT snap at under 4K to rev limiter showed a 2 HP gain off the snap, growing to 4 HP across the entire rev range. It is so effective, you must disconnect the reed valve feed and block it off when tuning. The effective air injection into the exhaust will artificially lean out the sniffer.
Cheers!

That's great information, thanks. Especially backed by dyno test results. I will have to go that route. These bikes stock as mine is seems to run rich anyways. Are you running a tuner or any major modifications?

Dchowror;
Search my posts / threads, I have a bunch of Muzzy stuff on the old steed. The engine is stupid stock, but has a correctly installed 1270 JE piston kit. Engine is close to 14:1 CR, ports cleaned up, cams degree'd, tuned with a PCIII and a nice exhaust. On the same dyno, the engine went from 155 RWHP (bone stock) to 202 RWHP with 111 ft. lbs. TQ. It was all in the recipe with correct supporting equipment like a Muzzy high volume fuel pump. The Devil is in all the little details
Cheers!

Wow. I am definitely learning lots about these bikes and all the cool things that can be done to them. I will first be going thru all the basics to be sure the bike is sound and safe. After which i will be re-routing the vent hose. Unfortunately I don't have the money or resources to do all the things you did but as you say, the little things matter.
Thanks again for the insights. Ride safe!
