Well one thing I can say is that it is (almost) a real cross-country vehicle unlike these SUV:s. Well not exactly like a real, like Defender, but closest You want to go when driving mostly on asphalt. Quite common this side of sea though.

I dont' know about up north but around this part of the woods it is a YUPPIEmobile and not used by any serious off roader. Parts and service are to much, dealer is a snob.
Why not by something built in Canada/USA?

Mattie... saw that they were actually pretty reasonably priced used....
ozzy... sorry but the NA car manufactureres have to get it together... I've been pricing out their products... they charge MORE than the Japanese! gimmee a break.. .If I was going to psend that much coin (ie as much as say, a new blazer, tahoe etc etc) I'd simply get the equivalent or even cheaper toyota AND I'd be better off IMHO... I find it pretty bizarre that the big 3 cant get it together and price their products so that an avg guy could actually afford them....
that being said, a perfect example is either the Land Rover or the Mercedes ML class... both are pretty nice/ high end SUV's .. . after 3 years depreciation they cost less to buy than a brand-new bottom of the line American SUV.. plus they are still under warranty... simply doesnt make sense to buy the bottom end of the line machine and pay more fer it...

When I last looked CR was not impressed and could not recommend any of the LR vehicles. They didn't like the controls and the ride and if I remember they were crazy expensive to fix. That might have changed as I last looked a year or so ago.
Prices on the Hummer should be stabilizing, on the H2 at least. At the dealership by my house they have em stacked up. Must be literally more that 50 of them out there and prolly 15 Hummers too. Why would you want a LR over an H2?

I'm looking at a 2000/ 2001 LR or ML430 .... no H2 then... the point of this is a comparo of used high end SUV vs bottom of the line new domestics as the high end used costs less to purchase than bottom of the line domestic new.

I've never owned a LR but a buddy picked up a new one a few years back now and swears by it. He drives alot due to business and is back and forth across the continent a couple times a year, never mind the serious bushwacking he tends to do for kicks, and has never had a serious problem. So I'd have to say they are pretty sturdy machines!

That right there should be an avoidance signal of the highest order.
Don't things tend to trade for what they are worth?
Some yuppie is saying please take this fucking thing off my hands before i have to pay another $400 dollars to get the oil changed.

actually not... 3 year old low end domestics depreciate proportionatly to the high end ones... instead of droping from 50K to 25K they drop 25k to 12k... the only important factor is how much the purchaser (me) wants to spend andwhat the purchaser (me) can get for his $$$$...
say, if you had 25k to spend on an SUV and someone said, fine.. .you can have this brand new, bottom of the line blazer (dont argue the #'s.... I'm just making them up for the example) or you could have a 2 year old Merc or BMW, still under warranty prolly only just broken in, what do you think you would do?
This is exactly why I bought my Ducati when I did... it was $3k less then any new Japanese 600 at the time... it was only 1 season old and it had only just (literally) been broken in....
so there...
anyways... I'm off the LandRover and back to the Merc now... enough people slagged the LR ... too bad as it's a nice looking ride..

Have you ever sold anything that was 2 years old and still under warranty and just slightly broken in? Why? I wonder if bikes are different than cars in that you get the Ducatti becuase some 40 yr old newly single hot shot got it cuz his 25 yr old grad student GF thought it was "sexy". Either dumped the bike or got dumped by the grad student and came to his senses. When I sold Hondas they called him "Mr Goodbuyer".

Most of the high end SUVs are outta people's reach so they tend to be leased on a three year term.. .unlike the NA manufacturers the high end units tend to carry a 5 year warranty... When they get punted back to the dealer after the lease is up they go for the balance owing or less as they have already made $$$ on the units, and there is still 2 yrs warranty left on them... with the domestics the std 3 year warranty would be up, spare the warranty on the emissions systems.

Don't think I'd consider the Land Rover. Hell, if you want a good domestic that you need to fix all the time get a Grand Cherokee. I speak from experience.
I really liked that truck but little things just went wrong with the damn thing all the frickin' time. But off road it was very, very good. Went just about anywhere and has a faboolous suspension (both off the road and on).
