I am ready to start"building".....
I would like all of your opinions on the following:
I have a "box" stock 2001 ZX-12R. I would like to
start "boosting" the performance of my bike.
( NOT that it is bad, on the contrary, it really moves)
What is a good combination to get it "breathing" correctly
( Air filter, Full exhaust, etc )??
I want to know about Kevlar, or steel braided brake lines,
is it a good investment??
I am 35 yrs old, I am wanting to do this for MYSELF, not
the punks down at the local bike hangout.
( again, nothing to prove to ANYBODY )
Word of mouth is best for me, always has been....

The easiest way to wake the 12 up is to pick up one of the "Package Deals" from Doug at Spencer Cycles.
http://spencercycle.com
Get the Akro/PC111R and K&N Filter package. This will cost you $1,282. While you are adding the pipe it would be a good idea to replace the stock radiator fan with an aluminum one from Muzzy (about $35).
Another very cost effective addition is to replace the stock 18 tooth counter sprocket with the ZX 11D 17 tooth sprocket. This will make your 12 easier to drive at slow speeds and you will notice the change in acceleration.
This will cost you about $30 for the sprocket.
So for less than $1,400 you can make some major improvements to your bike. And you can do all of this work yourself. None of this is hard, just take your time and enjoy yourself...

...if you're not all goo-goo gaa-gaa about ultimate top-end speed, do the 17/48 sprocket combo (still good for the high side of 175 maybe?...but acceleration will be awesome!), yellow box, and K&Ns...then full exhaust, MUZZY fan, and PC3R if you need it...ALL doable for a 35 year-old kid

Upgrades
I did all my modifications in small steps
Here is the what I reccomend:
1. Cut that damn fender down a bit, tuck the signals in (free)
2. Brake lines/pads. What good is the power you are about to add, if you can't stop quicker. (only about $200)
3. Exhaust/PCIIIr/K&N You can even do these is smaller steps, if your budget is tight. The Ackro is nice, but if you are on a budget (like me) a nice stainless system will make within 2-3 HP of the Ackro, and only weigh 2-3 pounds more for less than half the price.
4. Steering Dampener.
5. Carbon Accessories.
6. Ride it, Ride it, Ride it!
