Oil Pan removal questions
OK, so I got off work early today, so I figured I'd pull the oil pan to check for bearing material. I've never pulled the pan before, so please bear with me here.
I'm usually the first to say RTFM, but in this case, the manual has me confused. The manual says that you have to remove the exhause to pull the pan. It totally looks like I can do it with the pipes still on the bike.
Can one of you guys please tell me whether or not I need to pull off the exhaust completely to get the pan out? Or, can I get away with just pulling everything from the collector back?

i always pull the pipe, i have a muzzy.
I don't think you can get it off without removing the
pipe reguardless of which pipe except maybe a sidewinder. I know it would not be worth the hassle even if you can do it. The oil pickup is in the deep side of the pan and you need to put the pan straight up when you re - install in order to not unset it.

Bummer, I was hoping that I wouldn't have to remove the radiator too. Damn, this is a bigger job than I thought.

Yep, that's why MM was saying you'd be wishing for a sidewinder! Messing with that radiator is one big pain in the ass! I always worry about putting a hole in the damn thing.

I've had mine apart, unfortunately for you though, I had the pipe off as well.
I agree with Ninja that I think the oil pick-up being so damn long, and on the deep side of the pan that you're going to have to remove the pipe JUST to get the pan dropped far enough.
Without removing the pipe, it sure seems that you would NOT be able to snake the pan out because the plastic pick-up is too long, preventing you from moving the pan over.

btw, haven't you ever removed your pipe without removing the radiator??
if you have a Craftsman or other name-brand wrench set it's relatively easy, but then again, I have skinny arms.
I just remove that lower radiator bracket on the left side, by the oil filter.

Well, I ended up pulling the radiator, but I'm happy to see that there were no bearing pieces in my motor.
I need to buy me a sidewinder!

Good Good.........Now you can assume that your MPH loss is something related to the throttle!!! (Like NOT turning it...) hahahaha Also check your axles front and rear so they are greased well, no drag areas. You have learned alot and I am proud that you challenged yourself into new territory. Keep doing this and the bike becomes less of a mystery each time!
Now if we can get Entropy to buy some tools!!! hahahaha

Yeah, it's actually kinda funny when I pulled the radiator off. It wasn't as complicated as I remembered when I put the acra pipes on the first time. The one thing I wish would actually stick in my brain is the coolant drain plug. I keep forgetting that when I pull that, the coolant shoots about 3-4 feet horizontally. I made such a mess in the garage again.

Actually, SWFT, it looks the same as the rest. You just have to know that it's the bottom center one.
