Going the distance: cold weather riding tips

It's starting to get colder up here in the great white north.
This weekend was sunny with a low of 23f (-5c) and a high of
30f (-1c). It was an invigorating ride!

For anyone venturing out in the colder temps, I've added another section to my ramblings on cold weather riding tips:
Going the distance

cheers!

Hey seeker - I go out in the DEAD cold of winter too . I've been out up to temps @ -20F. For those temps... I suggest the following

www.gerbing.com

Gerbings produces heated clothing - I have a full suit and the gloves/sox - MAN it is GREAT.

heated grips
keep wind off
keep hydrated
wool socks with thin liner to wick moisture away

though i won't ride in under 35 degree weather, due to possibility of ice formation on roads. sorry, ice is bad news.

Gotta 'fess up Slug... I did ditch the '12 (first year I owned it!!) on some ice. Since then, I REALLY take it easy in the cold cold weather. It IS possible to drive it in the cold - just MUCH more scary.

I hate the winter. And I know how you feel. Man those 70 degree days down here are a bummer. The only venturing out we do, is to the garage to put a blankie on the 12....

Yup, were looking at some cold temps here in Florida. 81 degrees down here yesterday. Oh what will I ever do when it dips into the 60's?

Layers, layers, layers. And I cant recommend Gerbing. Those assholes...actually one asshole owner would not let me purchase heated socks this year at the Bike Show in NYC. After I just rode some 980 miles... 900 of it in sub 20 degree weather. I screwed up and put on 3 layers of cotton socks... knowing better and had 2 brand new wool/lycra socks in my drawer at home. Long story short... they wanted me to buy $200 worth of their products...when all I needed was the socks. He tried arguing with me that Gerbing's thermal switch is different from Widder's.
I told him to fuck off...that bastard...hehe.
