Went and checked it out... What's interesting is that they've got the PC USB ready for the ZX10R, and the 2004 ZX6R, but not the RR...That's 'in development'. Is the bike that different from the 6R?

They probably just know what kind of electrical connection was/is needed, so the part number materializes. But no map is developed yet. But then again, if they are involved with the race team, they could very well have got a pre-production bike to map. I would guess xl may be the only one who knows for sure....

DAMNIT. why does kawi have to come out with such a cool bike NOW. I Was all set to make the 2000 '12 my "last crotch rocket" and then start riding cruisers (keeping the '12 forever of course). Now... well... maybe I should wait a few more years?

Yepyep...That's a backtorque limiting clutch. Won't slip off the line for drag racing.

Isn't that the same feature that the Busa guys mod/eliminate from their clutches?

Nope, not a feature in a busa clutch, to the best of my knowledge.

Swft, I thought the backtorque limiter was to prevent over-revving/wheel lockup when changing down at high revs. To stop spin on launches you'd need an electronic traction control system.......
Backtorque limiter was first fitted to Honda's crappy NS500 oval-piston race bike if I remember right, and has made it onto quite a few road bikes. The difference is that they usually aren't adjustable like YCIS says the '10 will be.

Sorry, read that wrong Swft, slip not spin. But still the same, I don't reckon the back-torque limiter will help the "real" clutch during acceleration.

You are right. Won't slip the clutch at a launch. If these things are anywhere as fragile as the race ones are, you'd be good for about three passes at the strip before you are done. If you will recall, that's all Eric could nurse outta the ZX7RR at Daytona was three starts.

slipper clutch.......opens clutch pack on rapid deceleration so as not to disturb the rear tire or chasis....AKA- stops rear wheel hop

Back torque limiters have been on our machines for quite a long time...well before the NR oval piston machine......Concours and Vulcans have had them since their inception.

All ZX7's from 1989 on up to present have back torque limiters.

i like the back torque clutch in my little 6RR....run hard into the corner dropp 2 gears, and drop the clutch, aint got to worry about easin it out. But I will say that the clutch feels a little weird on the street. It works fine, just feels different than a regular clutch. ...

Extreme...are you sure all ZX7R's have them, or do you mean the ZX7RR, that they are racing? I rode my buddies ZX7R at the track the last time we were out there, and I got wheel chatter out of it, cause I was use to the 6RR, scared the shit out of me cause I wasnt expecting it...just trying to clarify, cause if the &r's came with one, then he needs to get his fixed....

HDL.......the back torque limiters of the past are slightly different from the slipper clutches of today...a little different tuning elements involved.

If you goto buykawasaki.com and look up an 1989 up to now ZX7 you will see in the clutch diagram a leaf spring and if you zoom in on the hub you will see small ramps on the inside that fit into ramps on the hub backing plate......the leaf spring is the key to this back torque limiter system.

EXL, Without divulging any career ending information, over what time frame? Were there many changes along the way? Was the state of tune (HP) ever changed up or down during testing? Did you test, head to head, with production bikes from other companies? You know, just interesting tidbits without releasing any "classified" information.

I don't think it was even worth your time to type out your questions..... You don't have enough money, a big enough gun, or sordid pictures of XL doing things to .... well use your imagination.
