Is any automotive oil acceptable to use in the '12?
Well, I started my Muzzy clutch upgrade today - and forgot ONE MINOR LITTLE ISSUE that is snagging the job. Here in the great area (and state) of Northern Nuke Jersey, NO MOTORCYCLE STORES ARE OPEN ON MONDAY... and I don't have any "motorcycle specific oil". I've been all over the damn northern state area looking for auto stores that would have Mobile 1 Mx4 even.. no dice . So... is ANY "regular car" synthetic OK to use in the '12?? Keep in mind that I've got the new clutch in and she's dry now... or should I just wait until tomorrow and get some Motul in there?? God its nice out....

I'm in West Milford Turbo . I'll get the oil tomorrow... don't matter much now... check out my new post - I busted a nut (not in a good way) putting the clutch back together. I'm taking my torque wrench and shooting it with my .308 now...

sport rider had a good comparo on the various oils, and included the mobil1 15/50
from the looks of it, the car oil had a bit more of the moly than the mx4t, but it had about the same as some other bike manufacturer's oil....
and supposedly the moly content was a big contributor to slipping clutch. but in all the cases shown, the amount was tiny...
but check out the sport rider articles, lots of good information.
both my bikes, street and track, get the mobil 1 15-50
oh, the street bike has over 42000 miles on its stock clutch..no slippage yet

That wasnt a good comparo of oils....in fact it was pretty misleading in areas as they only focused on lighter weight car oil....but made the blanket statement that all car oil had the friction modifiers..which is not the case.
