QUICK question about Muzzy install - started tonight!
Hey guys, I have an "emergency planning" question. I started the Muzzy clutch install tonight (WOOT!!) with the idea that I would continue tomorrow after the plates had a chance to soak in oil all night. I used Vincent's suggestion of using the bottom half of a platic 1 gallon milk container to pour some acetone into... then "dunked" the steel plates, removed them and "wiped them clean" with some regular rags (step 1 completed). Step 2 was to take an old (and clean) kitty litter pan, and pour a few quarts of oil into it, to let the plates soak all nite. Here is the problem - I THOUGHT I had a few quarts of Motul 300v sitting around (that is the oil I use in the 12). Turns out I did NOT have any . I do have some "regular" non-synthetic 10-30 car motor oil though. The question is, can I/should I use the car motor oil tonight and not worry about it (the bike will of course be getting a full oil change with the clutch install tomorrow - I will be getting Motul for the oil change)??????? Should I just wait till tomorrow to soak the plates?? anyone!?! please help!!
Thanks!

Update - I just stacked the plates and put them into another 1/2 gallon milk container bottom. I used just my "normal" car 5W-10 Mobil oil... I hope this is OK - opinions everyone? Should I put them into Motul tomorrow before the install, or just not worry about it? I think that the reason to put them into oil is just to "pre wet" them, so using a non-synthetic "regular" oil should be OK for this purpose, right!?!?

I have "soaked" the fibers in regular oil with no bad results (i use Motul 5100 in the motor). BTW these days I only soak em for 5 min or so.

I do not think I would want to use Regular Car oil, but if I did not have the type of oil I was going to use, I would get some cheap ND (Non Detergent) motor Oil from any Auto ZOne or Advanced or Pep Boys Auto parts! This way, the "Slippery" stuff in the Oil would not be soaked into the plates which is one of the main reasons we all use Motorcycle Oil to begin with!
Other than that, you are doing 100% !
