They said "ACETONE" not acid. Actually I use contact cleaner . brake cleaner then a quick wipe with Alcoho. Use a gallon windhhield washer or antifreeze that is square (the round is not large enough and cut the top off Make sure it is clean inside soap and water and a shot of brake cleaner and wipe dry) then slide the clutch plates in on their side and fill with the oil you plan to use! Let soak overnight! You are ready to go!l

Is Acetone the same stuff that carb dip is? I have a big paintcan of the stuff - maybe I should dip the basket and hub?

No don't use "carb dip"on the aluminum parts. Like Vincent said, On the steel plates use Acetone, MEK, or contact cleaner. Wipe or dip the fibers with engine oil on both sides (no need to soak) and wash the the hub in a solvent tank (Stoddard solvent or generic "parts cleaner" and blow off with air. Always check all drilled holes for chips or flash before installing.

DP,
do not use acid. just rinse the steels in alcohol, brake cleaner, any solvent. I'll bet running em thru the wife's dishwasher would work. you are just cleaning the greasy stuff (anti-rust?) off em.
I generally use a little acohol & scothbrite

Now you want to get him "Killed" Wife's Dishwasher?? I still have a few of mine's pots and pans. I stayed in trouble baking piston and cylinders in the oven to cure the Kargard and Gunkote and Piston Kote! Boy did that stuff stink!

Vincent! I thought I was the only one that did that! (Still do on my own stuff, as a matter of fact). I bought a "lazy susan" cake dish to rotate the pistons while I sprayed then with the airbrush.

Ok, I made a beeline for the dishwasher and got intercepted by the GF. BOY is she fast when it comes to her tools!!! I tried to explain that it was important for the bike... I got about 4 sentances into the explanation when she threatened to use my sockets to dig holes for her flower garden!!! I promised - I won't touch her tools if she doesn't touch mine . Looks like I'm going to go with the break fluid in the milk bottle!
For those that don't know yet - I'm about 6'2"... my GF is 6'2.5". Yes, she probably CAN kick my ass!

Doug - these parts ROCK too BTW. I've studied each and I'm impressed with the machining - GREAT work. Are the "Crate Engines" from Muzzy really 2000 zx-12r standard engines? I'm thinking now about getting one and experimenting with it (1361, NOS Turbo etc).

Yes, they are just as if removed from a brand new bike. We are waiting for the 2004's to arrive.
