Superbike Status Unknown
Random thoughts. I was talking to Dave Bostrom (Eric & Ben's Dad) today at Del Mar (while we were watching old man Jeff Ward kick everybodies ass in the Superbikers race), about how F'd up the AMA is on trying to bring parity to the class. So you've got everybody starting to think about racing Superstock next year, instead of Superbike. Currently Honda & Ducati would have the biggest advantage, because the twins will kick everyones ass if the rules don't change back to the way they were this year. Everyone talks about how the class was fairly equal because 3 brands won. Well, the Kawasaki wins were an anomally because of the track, which I think everyone would agree on. Everywhere else, Eric struggled. Daytona was great, as always for Honda. Yamaha didn't even bother with the R1, because they'd lose bad. But everywhere, it was Suzuki's race to lose.
The point is, if everyone goes Superstock, then how will the Kawasaki do? Who knows.. Eric may not even be the rider. He still may end up in Moto GP. And he's the only one at Kaw who'd remotely have a chance against the others. Honda would have the only advantage (which is ok with me from a sponsership standpoint, hee, hee), because they'd race both classes (RC51 Superbike, CBR1000RR Superstock). I think it would be great racing and I'm not sure who'd have the advantage. Unfortunetly, the racing would be completely controlled by who could manage their DOT tires. That could be ugly...
The benefits? Well we'd get to see the ZX10 in a state of tune that would be attainable by most consumers in Superstock. That would be very cool. Because once it's in Superbike form, there's very little it retains in common with "our" bikes, except brand and color...

For that very reason, K, I enjoy the superstock.
And I do think it'll be great for Kawasucky to have a good bike that offers stiff competition to HonDuh, Yamammaha, and Suckzooki.
The closer the racing the better. Sick of seeing HonDuh win all the friggin time.
Superbike is getting boring.
