ZX10, Ninja in shadow, plan attack?

JMO - Noting that many important tech features are left off the website, as well as the brochure from the Dealer show, made me remember some similarities I've seen in the past on other revolutionary new release models.

Things like Rake/Trail, Compression ratio, Wheelbase
Seat Height, Fuel Capacity, and of course Dry Weight, make me believe this is a bike still in a development transition. Which I think is a smart move on their part (if true).

Yamaha has released enough info on the R1 to get everyone's attention. 180 hp, bla, bla, bla. Kinda like, they've thrown down the challange. Did they speak to soon? Maybe...

Let's say the Kawasaki does similar to Honda (in the past), and doesn't release their bike until just before Daytona, or maybe in super limited numbers to make the homologation to race. So instead of rushing the fine tuning, they could buy some time to make changes to the above mentioned missing specs and make it better. It would definetly be a smart move. Especially if they could compare some pre-production models like they have, to an '04 R1 and possible the new Honda. I would assume they compared in many phases to the Suzuki.

Anyway, just thoughts and I would not be surprised to see it happen. Just way to many specs left out. Though it doesn't really matter to me, I'm just going to wait it out. If I'm right, kudos to the big K (not me, Kawasaki).

Oh by the way, how about that dry weight figure on the new ZX12. Anyone seen a 12 weigh-in at 463 lbs? Could you even get one to weigh 500 lbs dry (stock). Even without any fluids at all (even the forks/shocks/brake fluid dry) and removing the battery, cables, tool kit, etc? I admit that I wasn't really too concerned when I bought my '03 with the weight, I thought it would be lighter... But after taking a ton of stuff off, and installing a Muzzy S.S. with carbon/ti Jardine muffler, removing mirrors, signals, passenger pegs, etc, reading it for a track day, it still weighed 530 lbs with some gas. Man, where do these weight claims come from?

oddly, my 12 (when it was in one piece) only weighed 518lbs with close to a full tank of gas. the onyl things removed at the time may have been the mirrors and kleen air valve. stock exhaust too. i questioned the validity of the measurement but was assured that it was done on a veyr accurate shipping scale. yet i'v heard so many people talk about thier bikes being 540 or 550lbs wet. i dont understand the descrepencies.

as to the dry weight... give 518lbs on a full tank, i imagine 463 would be about right in that case, assuming all gas, oil, water, other fluids, and battery were removed.

That is odd. I did mine a full size shipping scale also that was certified the day before. Mine had almost everything you could take off and/or replace with something lighter. I won't mention all the little stuff that may swing it a few pounds either way. So stock, yea, I was probably in that 550 lbs wet range (at least). Go figure.....

Hey frEEk, the only reason that your bike was so light on the scale was because it :
1. You forgot to put the oil in after draining the old oil and changing the filter.
2. The cooling system was dry, lost the cap "somewhere".
3. The stock tires where showing cord on at least 50% of the circumference.

Otherwise most 12's weight around 545 lbs.

And ya probably saved 10 lbs taking those mirrors off!

k bryant, i agree the dry weight is such a useless number. Just like crank HP.

You cant ride the bike with the front sprocket digging in the road and no coolant, oil etc in the engine.

The numbers Zhooligan and I posted regarding stock and 'modified' wet weight were taken on a certified scale, and closely match Mattie K's and K Bryant's weights.

I think that might be a sign that EL is rather happy, eh?

Or perhaps a random post with meaningless rants to give Red Elk and the like fodder for endless debates, long winded diatribes, and language deconstruction arguments.

Or not.
