How do I strap the front end with my Scott's damper?

I want to strap the front down for drag racing, but I have a Scott's damper that seems to be in the way. I'd like to pass the strap over the frame, but the Scott's is right there. Where do I run the strap? I was looking at the lower triple clamp, but it seems like I'd have to run the strap every which way to do that. What do you guys do?

Mark

one end bolted to caliper

I just run mine over the lower triple tree, and back down to each side of the forks. works great. will wear out the strap after a season so I would change out 1-2 times a year.

I'm by no means into Drag Racing like you guys are, so I ask this question sincerely. Do you seriously "strap" down your front ends on a regular basis? That just sounds kinda insane. Why don't you just have the forks modified internally(like a SuperMotard type mod)? Nothing is done permanent, and you'd actually have some suspension still to work with. Is there no advantage to quicker times by having some suspension in the front to work with?

Is it because you can "unstrap" it quickly to change it back to stock ride height? I could understand that.

I do it everytime I race......and a 20 dollar strap is cheaper than having my forks modded internally

KB, most of the people that have or use the strap's also street ride qite a bit and they are just trying to remove the upward movement of the front end. it really helps in keeping the front end down on the bike as you launch. and on my bike even though i mostly race now I just havent pulled the forks apart to do the Mod, you can buy the kit's from schnitz to lower the front and they are very slick.

MadMike, understood and basically what I assumed.
YCIS - And if that $20 strap breaks mid run???...... How expensive would the damage be? Or am I on glue and strap breakage/failure simply never happen?

I gotta tell ya, I'm kinda fasinated with this strap thing. Although I'm mostly a roadrace weenie, you guys are doing some awful violent launches and serious terminal speeds to have some mod like this. Do the turbo and nitrous guys run this strap mod also?

Yup, almost everyone straps the front end. Most of the rules say that you still need 1 1/2 inches of front suspension travel even when using the strap. (Even though this is not always enforced.) Yes, even the turbo and nitrous boys use the strap.

The only people that aren't allowed to strap the front end is those of us who are running a bar and slick on the back.

By the way, the strap is strong, and it does give you some good signs of wear before they break. It's the people that ignore the signs that have issues.

Just dont wheelie too bad with straps... as they limit the travel of the forks... which can turn out to be a bad thing on a wheelie.

The straps are made of the same thing your tiedown straps/comealongs are made out of.....its quite strong.

Thanks for your replies. I called Schnitz and actually did it a third way. I ran the strap from the lower caliper bolt on the left side, up around the frame just in front of the damper post, then back to the lower right caliper bolt. The strap will be somewhat folded where it passes over the frame, but Ryan Schnitz said that should not be a problem. I'm hitting the track tonight, so I'll let you know if I learn anything.

The strapping went great. The bike stayed down almost all the way through first gear. Sometimes it still came up, but it was much better than before. I improved my best time from 10.6 to 10.444 @137.7. My 60' time was a terrible 1.906 on that run. There must be a lot more in the bike if I can work up the courage to launch it.
