I have an '03. Like freek says, it shifts like a typical Kaw. You can get caught up in all the theories on different oils and such making it better.... I do notice that mine shifts a little smoother now with 6k miles on it, than when it was new. But then again, maybe I'm just used to it by now.

I have an 02 12r, It shifts much better than my 86 VFR 750 did, maybe you are just spoiled. You will get used to it, and it will most definately get better as it breaks in....

my 02 shifted very heavy and clunky when i got it, but it shifts very nicely now, better than my ZX6R.....I believe that different oils do make a difference.....when you change the oil at the service, try a differnt type, cant hurt anything.....I didnt have good luck with Motul though, i got a lot of false neutrals with it.......

03. Shifted like a tractor until abot 3000 miles. Shifts sweet now. I just talked her into it.
Or it could be the newness wearing off.....
I was pretty worried too.
