Taillight integrator instead of paying the $50.00 for one i went out and purchased a taillight converter(Hoopy A.K.A Hopkins manufacturing corp.)model #48845.....heres the question ..
i am not a person who likes to work with electrical ...
ive seen someone with a zx-9 with the same converter (functional)on his bike...i cannot get a hold of this person so i can find out how he hooked the converter up...
so i was wondering if anyone here on the board can help me?
when looking at the converter the left side is marked car side and says:
<---Right turn
<---Brake
<---Left turn
<---Taillight
the right side is marked trailer side and says:
Right turn/brake--->
Left turn/brake--->
Taillight--->
any help would be appreciated guys...
Needs a life
Full throttle!

I remember trying that a long time ago. The results were not so good. In fact, the results convinced me I needed to buy an integrator.

the car side wires woudl be connected to the corresponding wires one the bike (the ones NOT conencted to the lights once cut). the trailer side wires would be connected to your taillights. your turn signals will not be connected to anything once done of course, since they wont even be on the bike anymore. if you're looking for more specific instructions i'll look up the wire colours. on another note, personally i like to buy stock connectors (those funky plastic clips) and connect the module between the original connectors as this means u dont have to cut any wires. makes it cleaner & easier to remove the unit if u decide to. getting the connectors has proven to be akin to mission impossible for me tho.
as to how well the unit will work, i'v heard varying reports. some, like swft, said it didnt work well. others have said it worked fine. i assume they're using different brands. i believe the blinking speed of ur turn signals will be effected no matter which unit u choose, but thats prolly not a big deal.

I bought two 12 volt relays. Wired the left and right blinker wires to the coil of each relay, and wired the respective brake light to the nc (normally closed terminals) of each respective relay. When the turn signal wire picks the relay, it opens (breaks) the NC circuit. Worked great....Did the same thing a few years ago on my brother's ZX9. It worked fine for years until he wrecked it.

so i take it the turn signals only work when the brakes are applied? i imagine that's acceptable most of the time, but i think i may be a touch nervous with that setup at times.
wtf am i saying? i havent had turn signals for a couple years :o

I wired the the brake light and tail light to the normally closed points on the relay. This required a 2 way relay. One set of points for the tail light and another for the brake light, max $ 10.00 @ Radio Shack for both relays. When the relay picks, both the tail light and brake light blink. Magic. I tried only flashing the tail light, but it wasn't bright enought to see on a bright day. Hope this helps.
