Fist road test with new exhaust system

After about 3 straight weeks of freezing cold, rainy weather, it finally dried up and the sun came out today.... no shit I haven't seen the sun in about 3 weeks. Thats winter in Germany for you. It was still very cold, but nice and dry. I bundled up, and strapped on my 12R with the nice new Hindle Stainless exhaust, PCIIIR with the hindle map, cliff's smoothness fix, and Muzzy Race timing advance. HOLY SHIT what a big differance a pipe makes on this bike!!!!! My butt dyno says at LEAST 10HP. The timing really smoothed out the motor, and made it rev a lot like it has a lightened flywheel now. It wheelies MUCH easier now. This sucker was way fast when it was stock, but now it's way scary fast!!! The sound is sooo awesome! It's not too loud, and not too quiet... I wouldn't change it a bit. It has a very very small idle fluctuation of maybe 30-40 RPM. I imagine the Muzzy block off plates, and Kleen air removal will take care of that? It is not really much at all... and I wouldn't really be disapointed if it didn't go away. My next step is to get a day off where I can take some time to install the K & N filters, block off plates, and remove the kleen air. I also want to lug the computer down to the garage to do the Power Commander TPS adjustment. A winter-prep oil change is also about due. I am still going to take her out on the dry days to stretch her legs a bit. Man... I can't wait for summer to get here.... I need to get stationed in the South again!

Me too!

Just put on my full Muzzy system, PCIIIr, block off plates, K&N filters and took her for a spin yesterday. Wow!!!!! Can't believe the performance increase. It feels like I picked up some HP midrange and stunning, stunning, stunning top end! Did I mention WOT was stunning? I needed therapy after that ride! As for the sound...well I won't be sneakin' up on any Busa's under throttle. But then again it will sound really good to them after I blow by them. Did I tell you it was stunning? This is seriously fun to ride now.

Kawi Rider......Increase your idle to 1500 rpm and the hunt will disappear. There is no other fix for the FI vacuum loss, (which I believe is creating the problem), caused by the lack of back pressure from your free flow header, at least not that I know of.
Cheers,
Cliff

Idle Surge Again

Cliff, I got my 12 to idle smoothly at about 800-900 rpm by gradually leaning out the idle. I have a full Muzzy with ss header & Ti can. I found the value of 20 you use too high and had bad surging at my altitude. (I live at 3700 ft asl) I did some experimenting and found that 0% throttle values of 2, -16, -13, -10, -10 gave me a stable idle without sacrificing throttle tip in. 2% throttle values are -2, -2, -8, -17, -17. The 2 value at 0% and 500 rpm seemed to stop an early tendency for the bike to stall at throttle cutoff when I was coming to a stop or gearing down. 0% throttle - ignition values are 0,0,1,2,2 These values all work when the bike is warmed up. On initial start-up there is a little more surging but I think it is due to a cold start enrichment setting in the ECU. Comments ?

Wilson1, I think he wants to syncrnize the PCIIIr with his throttle. My Yoshi EMS only showed 90% throttle opening even though the grip was twisted "to the max". Twas a simple thing to fix with the software.

Surge/sync

Yeah,

Syncing the software with the TPS with the PCIIIR is what Im talking about. I just turned my idle up a to about 1100 or 1150. I had a REALLY small idle hunt. 1500 sounds like a lot to me.

TPS adjustment

Tim i have idle surge with the Muzzy full ti exhaust i set idle at 1250 it is stil there but not bad 1500 rpm is way to hi causes a big clunk when shifting from nutural to first i have not been able too get rid of idle surge with any changes of map its caused by lack of back pressure to prove this cover 40% of can opening and idle surge will stop

zxrcy......Leaning your 12 out at idle is fine, just as long as it starts when cold. I like the 1500 rpm idle for (2) reasons. Number 1, the motor starts easier when cold. Number 2, a higher idle makes for smoother exceleration from a stop, (less chance of a stall if you fuck up,) and it slows down the throttle roll-off at speed.
I have never heard my transmission clunk on this bike, (even with a 2000 rpm idle), maybe on the Vulcan, but never on the 12!
Cheers,
Cliff

Transmission Clunk

If your transmission clunks going into 1st, you may need to adjust your clutch cable. Or you may have a Kawasaki!
