Few years ago I had an idea for a jig or a fixture that you could put the bike on and ride it without going anywhre. I t could be used to teach people how to turn the bike, countersteer, get a feel for leaning the bike really fast, but couldn't quite figure it out.
This commerical got me thinking about it again.
The bike would drive a drum of something; while, it's anchored down.
There you go. Go apply for a patent, but this board is my lawyer. I get 50% of the proceeds.

Actually, all you would need to do is to have a two degree of movement simulator, that would let you tilt in forward and back, side to side.

But is has to be power by the bike it self, so one can countersteer.

ther front wheel drives countersteering....you'd have to spin the front tyre too. simple drum wouldn't work..unless it was a big friggin drum ;P

it's not gonna work i'm afraid. to lean into a corner u actually have to go around a corner, otherwise u have no forces counteracting the lean and u'd just fall down.

no, but an engineer can SAY that it can't be done. mind u, usually when we say that it means that it wouldnt be easy and we're too lazy to try.
seriously tho, i'm no expert on the physics of motorcycles (electrical engineer, not mechanical), but i'm pretty sure it would work without duplicating the centrifigal force artificially, like with cables attached to the side of the bike that respond according to lean angle or something like that. frankly, i think u'd be better off going with a completely virtual system where all movement is controlled by servo motors and input (both bar and body movement etc) is translated into bike movement by a computer, rather than trying to rig the bike mechanically so u can ride it "for real".
actualyl that would work proerly either, cause u would be fallin off the side of the bike when leaning, rather than being pushed down into the bike. i guess u could have the floor tip rather than the bike, but not sure how well that would simulate riding a bike. i suspect the "feeling" would be so far off that when the trainee hopped on a real bike after their rigger training, they may jsut fall off immediately. i could be wrong of course. i think u'd just have to try it and see. dont think its a result u can simulate, calculate, or otherwise predict.

Why can't we keep it simpler?... Hmmm. I don't think there's anything simpler about such a fixture.
The front drum could be driven by the read drum that's driven by the tire.

hmm, good point! hey, at least that particular project turned out good, even if it is WA more work than expected. and more addictive
but hey, related to ur $0.02 comment on the other thread, u know this story right?
A plant has a piece of machinery break down and they cant get it to restart despite hours of attempts to repair it. finally they call an engineer in to look at it. he arrives, exchanges pleasantries with the managers, and goes to the machine. he listends to their description of the problem, walks around to the back, flips a switch, and the thing starts right up. they thank him and he makes his way out. he was there for a grand total of 5 minutes.
a week later they receive a bill for $1000. they are outraged that he changed them so much for 5 minutes work. the respond with a letter expressing their objection. he sends them a new bill:
5 minutes labour: $5
4 years of school and 10 years of experience and further training to know where the switch is and what it does: $995

man that is a good video....I like the one of McCoy I think it is.....as he is dirt biking it into and out of the corner, on the kawi Gp bike.....

Damn Skippy Jr. , it's McCoy livin' ghetto fabulous aboard the Kawi MotoGP bike. Can you believe how hard he's spinning the rear. Freakin' smoke boiling off of it. That is a definite keeper, got that AND this excellent Rossi clip on the hard drive.
Rossi is the man, that guy IS an awesome rider.
