BMC's in (pain). Dyno tomorrow.
Installed BMC Race Filters tonight in prep for dyno tomorrow. As indicated previously, will keep everything the same to gauge as straight up bolt-in with what I already have tested; Muzzy/Jardine, PC3, Muzzy map, MR9 fuel. Hope to be close to 180 hp on DJ150.
One thing. Oh my god what a pain in the %&*#? arse to install! Lot's of flashing to razor blade off from mold process. Way, Way, Way, Way!!!, tigher than stock fit. 20.3 mm on bottom, 19.0 on top. Are they supposed to be tapered??!!! Jeez... Had to grease up the sides to help slide/cram it down in there. Spacer sleeves on top are not as wide as stock, so it "pinches" down more when you tighten bolts. No provision to place tank support rod, which was kinda a neat feature on the stock filters. Man, these things better add power or they're straight-away coming back out. Performance results tomorrow.

Why are you reinstalling the airfilter bolts? Its not like theyre gonna go anywhere with the gas tank over them.
I keep the prop rod in my tool box.

Mine went in like they were made for the zx12, a little tighter than stock, but with some wd40 on the rubber they slid in nice.

I think the answer to why they were tight has already been answered by "K" Himself! He has tightened the bolts on the stock filters so much that the top has squeezed in and now the filters are hard to get in & out!
"K" Remove the bolts and widen the top lips (Use a cresent wrench or gently tap the lips to widen them) I bent them back when the filters were out using a bar. That is your problem period!

Thanx. Will give it another shot. Already tried bending them out a little before cramming them in, just did not want to yard on it too much. Just going by the fact that the stock filters slide in/out super easy. Dyno shortly.

You have never tried K&N's! Impossible at least! You should use come type of clear grease, not only to help slide in and out, but to seal them from the dirt! You did not say which filter! I suppose the Race!!??

Actually did say; "Race". Never tried K&N's. Heard too many bad things. Also, everytime I called K&N directly, they kept stating "we don't make them for the '03". So I kept thinking they must have changed or given up.

I think your right vince.
KB, Hopefully K&N changed the design and is making them for $60 again.
The BMC's are kinda high priced compared to a K&N. But I guess its worth it, they fit and dont collapse !

My Apology "K" You did say "Race" You will like them. No sand in the air box is the best part!
I am just not right since Zhoo's death and I did not need help to miss something to begin with!
