Can I mix tires!?!?!?
Say, a Bridgestone 010 on the front and a dunlop on the rear?

dont see why not....ive seen people say its fine..and people say dont do it. However none of the people who have said that provide any explanation as to why you can or cant.
Its not like the wheels are tied together...I personally dont think it matters.

Unless the tire (compound) on the rear hangs on longer than the one on the front. Then it begins to matter, hopefully with some warning.

i'd think the other major problem besides different grip would be different profiles. if u got one tire rounder than the other, that must throw u off. having said that, i have the 010 on the front and a 200 d207 on the rear right now (not my choice, shop didnt have the tool to take the front wheel off). went on a spirited 400km ride that same day & had no serious handling probs. it didnt handle perfectly by any means, but my bike is not correctly aligned anyhow, the roads are rough, i'm nto that skilled a ride, and we were only goin lik 6/10 anyhow, so it wasnt an issue. i'm not a big fan of the 010 as a front tire mind u. i'v had it slide on hard braking too many times, including that one rather fateful time.

I also think it would matter what sort of riding the individual did.
Obviously mixing tires would be more pronounced for someone who rode in the turns/mountains/trackdays/etc
For us straightliners...the back tire sticking to the ground is the only thing that matters

I found a place with 010 rear tire for the laguna seca trip. Problem was I was thinking of what my tire looked like before the yosemite/sequoia trip with wormhole, and not what it looks like now.
I didn't want to pull a frEEk on the trip.
But, continue the discussion in case someone searches for this thread down the road.

my .02
I've rode with different tires a few times. Not something I normally do, but it has happened on occasion. I've never had any major handling problems, but the tires were very similar in their performance characteristics. BT010 - M1 Sportec, etc., not a D205 on the front and a Pilot race on the rear. Some guys run odd sets, maybe same brand of tire, but different series, like a BT020 rear and a BT010 front. Some of the guys riding standards around here run that combo. The 020 offers decent grip for the rear and good milage, the 010 is a bit stickier and gives you more confidence in the frontend.
Kinda like the deal with running a plugged tire. Some say NEVER, others say FUCK IT, if it'll hold air I'm ridin'!!!!

...personally, I just replace the fronts and rears as a matched set...yeah, I know with the way I ride the fronts live about a third to half more, but I like the peace of mind having a new matched set everytime the rears go south...something about something going very bad when you're on two wheels...worth the expense and not worth the agony for me if something goes terribly wrong because of my tires...

There are a lot of guys over on Archies site that run the 010f/020r on their ZX11's and report good results.
I am trying that combination on the trek to Laguna this year.

Ozzy,
It seems to be a pretty good combination. When Mike ran that combo on his FZ1 it worked nice. I rode the bike through some twisties and it stayed planted even @ full lean. Pretty impressive given the bullshit rear spring on the FZ1. The thing just wallows around, and that's on smooth surfaces!!! I know the added bhp of the 12R will tax the 020 with relative ease, but it may impress you still. As far as the 010 front goes, you'll have no problems with it. 010s work pretty damned good IMHO. I'm running the Sportecs now and like them just a little better. Get a few more miles outta the rear, 1200-1300 miles vs, 900-1000 w/ 010s. Grip seems a little better, not much, but the rear tires work good even when they are toast. I can't say that about the 010. Either tire is an excellent choice.
You runnin' a 180 rear????

something just occurred to me re running different profiles front and rear. it's been said numerous times that, with the d207 for example, the 200, 190, and 180 have different profiles, with the 200 in particular having a considerably rounder profile. but regardless which rear a bike come swith stock, they (almost) always run the same front. suggests the different profiles front & rear isnt really much of an issue. course the bike may be designed with the different profiles in mind, but noone has ever warned about going up or down one size on the rear, so seems to me it really shoudlnt be an issue. grip level & tread pattern of course is another story.
