Yep, boys: just about low-sided
Okay, so we're out cruising the Holy Rail of Arkansas and one of the boys (Bob on his funky yellow darkie laying Triumph) passes me on the twisties. Well, so now it's ass, right?
So I follow him through a few turns then pass him. I've decided that I'm going to late brake like a mother fucker and slam this 12 over like my Gixxer at the track. WELLLLL....
I lean that fucker over then I feel my knee touch down. Not a big deal. Then I notice the peg is dragging, then more shit, then I feel the rear end kinda getting a little light and steppin' out a bit. I kinda pressed down really hard with my knee - I almost felt I was holding the bike up with it. Luckily I had apexed at that point and was able to open it back up a bit.
Afterwards I thought, "Boy, that coulda been fugly," while still gunning like a mother fucker like it was the last round of MotoGP. But it didn't scare me nor slow me down which made me realize I needed to let Bob back out in front of me to temper my pace back down.
I'm really thinking I'm going to put a 190/50 on there because I'm thinking I just ran out of fucking tire. Peanut gallery?
After an exam of the bike, I dragged peg, gear shifter, and the boot thingy on the kickstand.
So, anyway:
Just as a reminder, here's the lean profile of the left side of the 12 with some aftermarket pegs installed:

And this is the peg:

You need to go over on the Easyrider Board / ZX12.org (the darkside!) and look up the post that is a bout a week old where the guys have all determined it to be impossible to lean over enough touch a peg on a 12. Post your impossible pictures!!
Praise the Lord for I have seen a miracle!!!!

More ballsy than me. When the tires start sliding, my heart starts racin'. I may not slow down, but I gotta admit, it scares me.

What, you actually reproducing offspring or scraping pegs?
Yeah, I need to keep my head on straight.
A wist man once said, "There are old riders, and aggressive riders. But there are few old, aggressive riders."
I just have this competitive subconscious that I really have to keep in check. One side of me says to keep it at the track, another says I couldn't do with hitting the track every other month for the hit off of my crack pipe. I need to ride as much as I can.
Gotta figure something out, here, pretty quick.
*sigh*

Lowside Jon
I do not think the 12r was intended to be ridden that way, however I must say I rode with the ARKansas Hooligans and I saw it with my own eyes, (when the 02 r1 could keep up). Remember this is the guy that taunted the 998r with track body work on his "little" gsxr600, just goes to show if you got the balls it will do it, and Darky Bob and his rs 955i has the paint worn off his lower fairing as a testiment to their ability.
ps I'm in way over my head

That bastard on that 998R had it coming. Don't pass me on a straightaway then early brake for the hairpin.

Yeah, it's a little past due, isn't it? But that was after a 360 mile ride, in the rain, muh man.
Maybe 998R man will be at Hallett - I hope so. It was fun mixing it up with him. One time I was going to get off the track but he waved at me to stay on for a couple of laps. It was all in good fun.

You ought to see my lower fairings...rights scraped a little, the left is rashed to shit...(do I need to find the pic?)
Been like that since May 00' in the first few days of ownership; before I had the springs right I dragged the hell out of them...so much so, I drug the screw to the middle lower mount right out of the mount, & put a 2.5" hole in the fairing...
Only reason I never replaced it is I figure I'll buy the new lower fairing, put it on, & bail!
