tune-ups

Went to my dealer today to set up an appointment for a tune-up.$400 + parts and he said the mechanic didn't even want to work on it because it's a 2000. 2001 and newer have more room to get at the valves.Any clue why?14,000 miles and I could feel the bike down on power but I suspect dirty spark plugs because it was running real rich before I disconnected the PCIII.It will be the first service I've brought a bike in for.I'm getting to old for that and its not worth the aggrevation, besides I'ld rather have it done right.

Thats pretty funny! I can't think of so much as a micron difference between the 2000 and 2001 regarding clearance. I wonder if you had a 2001 if the story would be different!

14,000 miles it is due for a valve adjust (should be the only one you ever need unless the engine comes apart for some other work far off in the future) and Spark plugs. I would assume they are changing your oil and air filter for that price!

They said they pull the tune-up sheet right out of the manual and go through everything.I just have to remind them to use synthetic oil and I have K&N filters now. If I have them redegree the cams, all that does is move the power band higher, correct? If so then I'll just leave it at the stock setting. If I didn't have an insurance payment due,a cycle salvage place has an akrapovic ti pipe with a carbon can on it fairly cheap 450$ but I don't think I can swing it.
